I have a website I am trying to do for a friend that is in a semi-big company, and he says he will probably have a ton of traffic visit the website (downloading videos, messaging, etc). So my question is, what is some of the best hosting or servers to use (they are not really on a budget either)?

Getting a ton of traffic is manageable, but what matters it what actions they're taking.

In your case, downloading etc...which are intense...better get some dedis.

Ok, well I'm working with a friend of mine who has a academy and so I believe they need a server or something to because they will have a social site where they can watch videos, download pictures, send messages, etc, and its going to be alot of people.

I was seeing what would be the best route to go? Money is not really a problem, so I'm looking for the best option, and something midline just in case.

Your friend has an academy? I think our definitions of academy are different, but if it's a legitimate institution of learning, you need to speak to some professionals that deal with high security hosting.

For most high intensity operations, a dedicated server is what you're looking for.

It sounds like you don't need to, and aren't looking to budget, so go find what major companies and schools use to host their online services

Let me know if you need any help with dedi & secured hosting.

A dedicated server with a solid company is the way to go. In your case, to avoid headaches you should choose a MANAGED dedicated server, meaning there's someone in charge of all chores related to it, like keeping it up to date, "hardening" it (firewall and security config), optimizing everything so websites run smoothly and making sure it stays online.

Good companies offering managed solutions are rackspace, wiredtree and dedicatednow. They are big, and host big companies as well, so it's the safest bet. Also, don't blindly go and pick the first good server they have. It's better if you head over webhostingtalk and browse the managed dedicated servers section - discussion part to read reviews and advertising part to get good deals directly from their reps.

I would just get a linux dedicated server with about 12 gig of ram and they go for about $100 a month

Shoot me a PM, I would love to help you out with a professional managed solution, even if I can't personally help you, I can for sure give you some insider knowledge and help to point you in the right direction
