Should I get a concealed weapons permit?

Sadly that is no longer the case lol otherwise I would be that guy haha. I dont know how California did it but they have somehow banned open carry all together. First it was you couldnt have ammo in the clip and it must be carried else where, then next they banned open carry all together.

if seeing someone holding a gun scares you, then if you could see all the people who hide guns in the states, well im not sure what you'd think haha

Education and economics are a bigger cause of gun violence in countries then the per capita amount of guns. Look at the per capita amount of guns in south africa vs usa and the per capita murders in south africa vs usa.

A source could be this. I didn't read it all but can see where it is going.
The numbers in that link seem to add up but still seems flawed at a few points. Too stoned to explain why. It doesn't make sense though, to exclude some murders in your research. It has a few other flaws too. I didn't check for any other links though.
To make it simple:
If you rely on a weapon only to defend you: You will fail; You need other means of defense, studying a martial art makes sense.
A weapon is an aid, nothing more. Any kind of weapon.
You need to know in what household you are introducing a gun. Not all are suited.
Concerning the research: The phrase "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" springs to mind.
I can see legitimate reasons why the ownership of a weapon increases changes of demise, owning one on itself is not one of them.
As even this study points out: "Of the 388 homicides surveyed, 21 victims died while unsuccessfully trying to defend themselves with a gun."
Also: What Roparadise said. It even shows in this study.

Wyoming has the highest amount of gun ownership in the United States at 59% of residents owning firearms and a 1.4 per 100,000 murder rate. Hawaii has the lowest at 6.7% of residents owning firearms and 1.8 per 100,000 murder rate.

I'd love to go to USA but everyone is packing like there's no tomorrow so as a person who quite likes to be in a place where not even regular pigs have guns, then I guess I won't be visiting. I'd like to visit the dirty south, you know of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo fame, I love rednecks and all that shit, or at least watching it on TV is funny.

I'm a war vet, served in Afghanistan and Iraq as a Security Forces SSgt (Military Police) so I'm confident about weapon safety and use if need be. Also my military police background helps with the process. Thanks again guys and gals!

Let me guess, you're an American...
How exactly does a gun help you, and most importantly how the hell do you end in a situation where you need a gun? If you leave in a place where you need a gun, you should move. If you go out and there's a high chance people will try to kill you, go out somewhere else or learn to behave in society. I'm not saying you don't, I'm simply saying a gun is not really a solution. I have nothing against having a gun but I do think you're missing the real problem if you think you need one. Different people, different mentalities and behavior. In US kids buy guns and go to kill their colleagues and teachers at school while at the same time in Sweden (or some other northern country) when you get discharged from the military you get to keep your full-auto weapon. From then on it is your own weapon. Never heard of them going on shooting sprees. In Canada IIRC the average number of firearms per capita is 5 !!! Again, you don't hear about them going on shooting sprees. My point is, you can have a gun and be responsible about it or you can be a total wacko and hit people in the head with a rock. The problem is not the gun but the man. That being said, I still wonder why you need a gun to defend yourself. Just trying to understand your point of view.

That's because murder has nothing to do with gun availability. Murderers don't go to have a fair fight, they go to murder, hence they will look for a weaker opponent. This is the case with bullies in high-school, with bullies in bars, with extremists and with any type of murderer. Have you ever heard of a suicide bomber trying to bomb a fortified military base? Nope, that would require skills and intelligence and would probably be called a SEAL or something not a suicide bomber. They go in a crowded place and kill as many people as they can, people that didn't gave a shit about their convictions and died for nothing.
True power to murder does not come from weapons but from ignorance, lack of empathy and hate towards ones self. Because that is the spring of all hate towards others - the hate towards yourself.
Madoctopus I have three small kids and a wife. My last deployment, I was injured by a IED, medically retired by the service...so doing any combat techniques on a armed individual will just put myself and others safety in jeopardy, due to my physical limitations. I'm a good person who loves my family and its my duty to protect them if a unfavorable situation occurs. There are some evil people out there who don't care about others....got to be prepared. In my state, a single mother was shot and killed, by some young men, they robbed her house and pistol whipped her child. They did all this for a damn tv...i hear you on moving but thats easier said than done my friend....and baddies are everywhere no matter where you move. also, I'm not looking to shoot someone lol...my military training taught me how to respond to situations with the appropriate level of force. I dunno I can give more reasons why I need one than not...hey man I'm rambling thanks for the reply brother, back to bed!
