Should I focus on short-tail or long-tail keywords

You must focus on long tail keywords; long tail keywords are low competitive and easy to get rank.

Long-tail keywords are better to focus on because they show more buying or conversational intent from the user. So, for a better conversion rate, you should focus on long-tail keywords.

I usually start with the long tail for new sites. Long-tail keywords are actually more useful. They have less competition and users who search for these types of keywords are generally more likely to take action.

Starting with long-tail keywords is a smart move since they bring in more targeted traffic and higher conversion potential. Thanks a lot for sharing this!

Should I focus on short-tail or long-tail keywords
Go for long-tail first. They’re easier to rank, bring more targeted traffic, and help you build authority. Once you start gaining traction, you can slowly aim for short-tail keywords. Basically: long-tail for entry, short-tail for scale.

Should I focus on short-tail or long-tail keywords
If you are starting out or have low authority, focus on long tail first. Long tail keywords have less traffic but are easier to rank and convert better. Short tail keywords bring high traffic but are very competitive and broad. mix in short-tail as your site gains strength.

Focus on short tail, long tails will rank automatically. Just make sure, your interlinking is perfect.

Long tail keywords are usually the better focus since they are easier to rank and bring in more targeted visitors, while short tail can be added later for wider reach.

Focus on long tail keywords first because they are easier to rank and bring targeted traffic, then move to short tail once your site gains authority.

Go for long-tail keywords if your site is new. They’re easier to rank and bring more targeted traffic.

It depends on your goals. Short-tail keywords (e.g., "shoes," "coffee") have high search volume but fierce competition—good for building brand visibility if you have strong resources. Long-tail keywords (e.g., "waterproof hiking shoes for women size 8," "organic cold brew coffee near me") have lower volume but higher intent and less competition, ideal for driving targeted traffic, boosting conversions, and catering to specific user needs.

Most businesses benefit from a mix: use short-tails to capture broad interest and long-tails to target ready-to-buy users, balancing visibility and conversion goals.

Long-tail keywords are great for targeting specific queries and driving more qualified traffic. Short-tail keywords can be useful for broader visibility, but it’s a balance!

long tail keywords, especially for new websites, due to their lower competition and higher conversion potential.

Consider long-tail keywords which are less competitive, easier to rank and bring greater volume of targeted traffic. You can go after short-tail keywords as your site grows.

Should I focus on short-tail or long-tail keywords
For a new blog in 2025, focus on long-tail keywords first:
  • Short-tail (e.g., “travel tips”) → huge volume but very competitive, dominated by big sites.
  • Long-tail (e.g., “budget travel tips for solo female travelers in Europe”) → lower volume but easier to rank, higher intent, and brings targeted traffic.
Strategy:
  1. Start with long-tail keywords to build authority and steady traffic.
  2. Once your site grows and gains backlinks, gradually target short-tail keywords.

You shouldn't focus on either. Just write the way you can and the best about your subject. Think of yourself as a rapper. Are you a black belt shaolin kung fu rapper spitting hot bars like the Wu-Tang? Or you a content rapper, that doesn't have any worthwhile lyrics books. You just wrote a couple of songs, and nobody cares? Your website will rank for the level of degree that you cover the topic, and in your own unique perspective and way. Not whether you match a short or long tail, lol it's not the 90's.

Do off-page SEO for short tail keywords and do on-page SEO for long tail keywords.
