Should I edit image metadata?

It's not much of a ranking signal, but adding image descriptions in the metadata (like an alt tag) may help with visual search, and geotagging may be a slight signal to help with local search. To edit, in Windows you can just right click an image, select properties, then the details tab. Double clicking on an entry will allow you to edit a field.
But IMO your time is better spent working on on-page optimization, internal linking and external backlink building.

Having and editing metadata is beneficial, but you don;t overdo or spend more time on it

Alt is more important. Anything apart from that is a waste of time.

It depends. If your page speed is already running slow and you have a lot of images, it’s a good idea to just get rid of it. But if you think it could be good for local SEO or your site has no speed issues, metadata may help you.
