Should I create a 301 redirection in this case?

Hi everyone,

We bought an expired domain name 5 months ago and we've been working with it as our main money site. We put a lot of good quality backlinks, good content...

However, after 5 months, Google indexed only a few pages. So we investigated and found that the domain was used for spam before we buy it.

Now, we decided to start a new website with a new domain name and export the products and contents from the old one to the new one. But I don't know if we should also add a 301 redirect from the old one as it's the same content and to get some authority.

I would not do a 301 redirect here as it may forward any penalty on the old domain to the new domain.

Just ditch the old domain and start fresh.

I agree with @thedorf that penalties go through 301s, so it's better to just use a clean domain.

Or simply buy 1 from @Nargil , much safer...

Correct advice from @tazarbm and @thedorf .
Move the content to a new site. Do not apply 301.
Consider it a loss and move on.

you can keep them, but add canonical tags on the old domain's pages to the correct URLs of the new domain

301 redirects have the potential to pass through the “link juice” of any backlinks pointing from the old domain to the new domain along with any accompanying search engine rankings it wise to add.

To preserve your website's search engine rankings, traffic, and reputation, it's important to implement a 301 redirect from your old domain to the new one. But your old domain is a spammy site so there is more possibilities to transfer spam also like others. So in this case I recommend you not to do 301 redirect

Still, you are abusing the quality of a site, better focus on the new start. whatever you spent time/cost for quality content going into the wrong place. Try to avoid and focus it on a new site
