I am somewhat a newbie and I got AdSense the previous month. Somehow I stumbled upon an old famous tech/SEO blog which is established on 2009 and is now not being updated. The last major activity is around 2012, after that a few post in 2013 and 3-4 in 2014.

The MOZ DA and PA are 35 and 43. Majestic Trust and Citation are 14 and 18 respectively. All backlinks are natural and on doing a search I found that the website got hit by the first Panda update on 2011. There are almost 1300 articles and many of them are thin (Can be the reason for panda hit) . Majority of them hasn't been updated in years and the WordPress theme is outdated too. The site doesn't use webmaster tools and don't even have a sitemap. But still the site gets about 50 unique views per day. The prize the owner ask is $500. This is my first investment and the amount is somewhat huge to me. I need help. Should I consider buying the domain?

For a newbie I wouldn't recommend to buy it. You need to be experienced to be able to bring back to life a site like this...especially that was hit by Google's updates. The website may be a good buy, but only if you know how to reconstruct it. Why don't you invest those 500$ in your favorite niche? Buy a domain, buy some articles and start ranking some long tail keywords first. After you see some small success you will be motivated to level up.

It's too much of a wildcard especially if you don't have some experience. As a newbie, there are a lot better places you can invest 500$ in, I recommend you to look at some of the threads in the money making section of this forum and you'll find something better to invest money on.

I would totally buy it. Hell I would even JV with you if you have some writting skills. Combined with my seo we could def make a killing with a site like this one

If this site belonged to a IM professional it might have been used in past churn n burn projects.

If it were worth 500 bucks, why wouldn't this same professional monetize it himself? Caveat emptor.

it might be a nice basis to learn some stuff as a newbie. no one can tell you what to do though. i say have a go. just my opinion. look for posts on refreshing an existing blog and reconnecting an old audience.

He most likely got hit for thin content. Doesn't mean it was a churn n burn. Also, just because someone has a blog doesn't mean he's a pro/ IM expert.
