In most cases, those stats alone can't tell you whether a domain is worth buying or not. However, in this case, you can see that there are ONLY 20 referring domains, which is nothing. ONLY 3% of the 200+ links coming from those 20 domains are do-follow. This is an instant NO.

You also need a degree of manual work to determine if a domain is worth buying. Search it on Google with quote and see whether a few authority sites are linking to it.

This one doesn't look like a domain I wanna buy.

Personally an expired domain that works in my case:

It should have clean backlinks, anchors, wayback history.

It should have expired recently so the chances of having pages indexed is high.

It should have minimum 50 RD.

Backlinks ought to be decent quality & their DR shouldn't be below 25.

It should be in the same niche & preference to higher aged ones.

I never find these myself as it's impossible with the amount of hunters out there for expired domains.

It's either from auctions or domain selling vendors.

your saying are all about the key points.

Can anyone tell me what are the disadvantages of buying an expired domain?
The only disadvantage I find is you won't easily find one to use directly as a brandable domain.

Even if you find something it's unlikely that you will like that domain.

In most such cases these domains go as a part of pbn or redirect (if very powerful link profile).

But since it has more advantages & it saves money and time with good ROI I prefer investing on these.

You really gotta check way back machine first. If the domain was never spammed than you can consider it.

it's hard to say without knowing the backlinks, but like someone else said, if it's cheap ($5-$50) and you can afford this investment go for it!

The interesting part, however, that I would like to know the answer to is how it's possible for 33 IPs to provide only 20 RDs. I've never seen this before, I think this must be looked into a bit more

The first question to ask is : what is the reason for your purchase? Is it to use or resell the domain?
