Should i buy this domain

So I started a new company, whose name is a made up word. The domain (company).com was expired and at the godaddy auctions at the time of me creating this company. I did not think that this domain price would go up at all since it is essentially a worthless (no backlinks or PR) domain, other than having age. But now that the auction is almost over the price has risen to about $100. Do you guys thing its worth it for me to buy this or just register a domain name like this (company)(relevant word).com This company name is my brand name for products I will be selling.

Please tell me what you guys think.

I would go with buying it so someone else doesn't. Even if it isn't that high of a possibility for someone to look for it, it's always good to own your brands actual domain, saves the trouble of figuring it out later. Just my opinion.
 
If there is an option just take .net or .org domain
 
Its not unrealistic to believe that godaddy and other registrars are checking company formations to see if they can push prices up on domains..I've heard it happen to a few people who registered a company then two weeks later went to reg a domain and found it was suddenly a premium.

Anyway as much as it sucks if you are going to be running a nuts and bolts business the domain is very important so you have to bite the bullet and register it.
 
If its like starting from scratch type of project then I'd go for a brand new domain instead of investing $100 on a domain that has no previous value (like PR, backlinks etc).
 
so do you guys think that (brandname)shop.com is worse than doing .net or .org

If not go for a new domain
with 30$ you can buy yourbrand (.com)(.net)(.org)

if it is the best domain you can think of that pertains to your business then yes, buy it. It's only $100 and it's for your business. You need to invest anyway and you can always itemize it come tax time.
 
Buy it. If this is for a serious business you want to brand yourself right.

I think you did well by purchasing it. Like a poster said above, if its your business then make sure its branded well.
 
Good on you for buying it, if it's your brand name and the cost is only like $100, well worth it. If the business is successful later on and you wanted too buy it then, the price would of gone up loads :D

So I paid for the auction and today I get an email saying that the original domain owner reclaimed the domain.

Now I go onto the site and I see that whoever the owner was is selling it. I'm pretty pissed off about the situation and dont know if I should fill out his contact form or just go for something else at this point.
 
Like another user said, if you're serious about it, try and get it. See if he will sell it to you. It couldn't hurt to try.
