Thinking about buying a domain with a very relevant high quality links (edu.gov). The purpose: To get use of the link juice buy reconstructing the site and create contextual links to my moneysite. Is that a good Idea?

One of the corner stones of SEO. Make sure site is not penalized. You can either build links from it, or redirect it entirely. It's up to you.... You can sell links from that domain for some Extra cash.

How to I know if it has been penalized? Links in Majestico looks good and they are really hard to get links from trusted sites. However 2011 PR dropped from 5 to 3 and now its a 4.

Start checking it's ranking for keywords it should be ranking for. Site title, site description... not the full or partial url as that will still rank unless its de-indexed. But if terms that it should be ranking for especially being a supposed authority site are coming up in the first few pages, the site is fine. If you can't find any rankings anywhere.... that site is toast, and now you know why the owners are dumping it.

Best of luck.

sorry, I should note, that's for a live site.

If you'e talking about an expired domain, it will not be ranking. Only way to know for sure then, is to build a site on that domain, add content based around what you're looking to do with it... give it some time, add some backlinks. If nothing ranks.. site title etc. domain is under penalty..... its a long process. But if you have a penalized domain, you're not going to want to link it to your money site. That's the gamble you take.... especially now in the age of google animals, where so many sites have become penalty fodder.

Do you know how those links where built, whitehat or blackhat

Yes, its actually an official news website for a governmental owned company about my niche. (so links are very good and earned - not built).

It's better to have one link from only one domain name, and also perfectly will be with one ip domain. And you should use the exact URL to the page you are trying to rank.
Anyway the backlink count will not improve in the eye of Google as it will still be seen as 1 unique backlink.

But thousands of backlinks from relevant sites should make that one link from this domain to my money site a lot stronger than any other link, right? Otherwise it would be waste buying it...

Yes. All that link juice will be passed to some extent via that site to your site, and you will benefit from such. I take it this is a live working site then, and ranking well for terms it should... in that case it is a good buy. Also since you see it is such high authority and presumably ranking, you get to monetize and try to convert the traffic.

SEO Alchemy, you such a nice person! thanks for the explanation. Gracias
