In the past I have used G webmaster tools but just started up a new website on it's on hosting plan. Should I get it indexed by submitting it there?

Yes you should, I think google webmaster tools is so far more helpful than anyother alternative.

If you plan to do any type of BH stuff at all, you should certainly not use WMT.

That makes no sense. Even if you're doing BH stuff and you get penalized, at least you can pinpoint the dates and maybe figure out what type of BH stuff is most likely to get you a penalty. Google already knows everything about your website whether you verify it on WMT or not.

i would not use WMT. there is some evidence that google uses all the information against you...

What information do they not have now that they would if you used WMT?

WMT is simply a communication channel between Google and Webmaster. It's not like you're giving Google server rights by using WMT.

Yeah man,
I used G's "Webmasters Tools" to check my traffic when I did a little facebook spamming and like-jacking...
I kept track of the influx of visitors with "GTools". I was even penalized for spamming my site's url everywhere...
Got one blogger site's url banned from FB that way...
Adsense was banned on another blogger site one time due to DMCA claim...
Facebook pages still up, blogger with offending posts still up, Adsense account in good standing is the same google account used for the blogger blogs and Gtools.
Its just another tool, use it or don't. If a hammer goes the job done, why NOT use a hammer?

If you aren't doing anything spammy / blackhat, etc, I would install it

You would do well to spend some time reading these forums and looking at user experiences with WMT.

If you take the view that WMT isn't a risk for BH operators, you're misinformed, and you'll jeopardize your own sites and those of others if they take your advice.

Yes. Google owns Google anyways, they know what you're doing at all times anyways. If you think you're hiding something by not using WMT you are kidding yourself.

If you believe in conspiracy theories - No. If you want some decent webmaster tools and are comfortable associating your websites with each other - Yes.

Basically you don't put your shady sites on the same WMT as your 'legit' sites...

Here is how I look at it. Will I make anymore money using WMT? No. Is there any point taking the chance then and losing money? No.

I see where you're coming from and if you arent building a mostly white hat site go this route I guess.
But I always use webmasters, unless you're spamming the living hell out of a site or doing something a lot worse then just buying links I wouldnt use webmasters, but that's just me.

The question was more toward helping it get indexed. I've been indexing my site, for about 48hrs, and nothing. I usually am indexed within 24

AMF works better than WMT to get your website indexed >D Get those tweets out

Yes maybe but does g00gle own your website?
By adding a tracking script on your website are you not giving them more information that they wouldn't know without it.

WMT and analytics is separate...Don't need a tracking code for WMT. But yeah with Analytics you def wanna watch what you're doing lol.

The only time I use webmaster tools is once shit has hit the fan, aka rankings plummet.

That way I can get an idea of whether or not my site has a penalty, and if it does I then act accordingly.

Until then I don't verify or use webmaster tools...

Don't quit your dayjob...

If it's only been 48hrs I wouldn't sweat. You could also use some free ping site, there are tons around, just Google it.

Holy shit are you guys paranoid.

I don't how you lot don't understand how WMT actually works.

WMT isn't a tracking tool like Google Analytics, where I understand the paranoia can come from. When you set up WMT and you're asked to verify your website, it's so that Google authorises access to information they've collected about your website. The moment your website is indexed, Google starts to collect information about your website, indexed pages, impressions, clicks etc. So you verify your website to say show that you can access that information for a particular website.

So if you think you're being clever by not verifying that information, then you're being extremely stupid.

If you're running large blog networks, then sure as fuck don't create that pattern for them. But Considering you're struggling to get a website indexed then I feel that you're not at that level just yet. If you're scared about that sort of stuff then with each domain just create a new account.

Google isn't blind to your website until you verify your account
