Hi all,

I am doing some keyword research for a new website and would like some insights. It seems as if 5-10 keywords I am wanting to target are all dominated in the Top 10 by local businesses and/or G Maps. Which makes sense to me since G wants to show the most relevant search results to the keyword.

So should I just avoid those keywords?

ie:

[keyword 1] in NY/New York/etc

Any insight would be appreciated.

i dont like keyword which have the first page covered with google place listings , but its just me

If the top 10 are all businesses, especially with Google listings and ads, it means that keyword is a good keyword to compete in as there is money to be made.

Whether you should avoid it is to check the competition level. If the competition is not strong you should definitely go for it. Beats targeting a keyword with no competition.
