You can use shorts to build subscribers up fast, but switch to long form videos later when you are satisfied with the number of subscribers that you have acquired from shorts.

Also, better to ask her to just send you the videos instead of letting her own anything. The more you control, the easier it will be to have it going long term.
 
In my point of view .Yes, Shorts are still an effective way to quickly increase subscribers on YouTube, but success depends on various factors including content quality and audience engagement.

If you need only subscribers, shorts will work best. But if you need good money, long videos will help.

Short will be better. You can create a short video from your long video. The short video will highlight of your long video.
 
Based on my experience and observations, right now, short-form videos are much better.
 
From my experience doing shorts can get you tons of subscribers and views very quickly as long as it’s good content that grabs your attention. Needs to hook the viewer within the first 5-10 seconds.

Shorts are way better to gain subscribers on YouTube. On long videos, there will be less subscribers gain but you will get most of the earnings on long videos only.
 
Shorts is still better. You need to find the right niche and content to go viral.
 
Short videos get people's attention the most. You can compare yourself by checking through a few people's channels.
