Is it possible to still get backlinks by altering your website address using a shorturl service and then sending backlinks to that short url?

your short url should do a 301 redirect to achieve this , I think it would be black hat

yes you can build backlinks to your shortened url, but that won't have that much SEO effect on your main site. better build the backlinks directly to your main site

you can do that but its better to build link on your site..Social bookmarking will help

I didn't know if the SEO would improve by having your link stored on a shorturl website. I think how I pictured it was having an extra backlink going through that site. I guess I'll stick to direct links if that's a lot better.
