Hi,
So I noticed a URL shortener URL appearing on SERPs. (short URL does a 301 to money site)
I know people are creating backlinks to shorteners but I was under the impression this was done to protect the money site (shortener acts as buffer) so if something happens you kill the short URL and all "bad" links you built to it are gone.
Are you using these shorteners for their SEO value? It sounds strange that G would rank these short URLs. take bit.ly for example - its majestic stats are obviously off the hook but never saw a bit.ly URL gets rank and it makes sense since it 301 redirects to the destination.
Anyone can share some insights on how the short URL is appearing on SERP?
