Hello,

I use shopify and just got someone saying they never received a product from me after a month of waiting. When I asked for identification they provided a screenshot of the paypal transaction to facebook pay. I don't have facebook pay set up and have no record of that purchase either through facebook or shopify. Should I tell them to contact facebook or are they trying to scam me? I don't want someone to lose their money but I don't want to refund a scammer and I have no method to actually refund them. Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks!

Probably someone is attempting to scam you. The main problem is you can't exactly know whether this person received the product or not. So this is a hard decision to refund it.

The thing is, I have no record of this transaction at all! I couldn't refund them short of just sending them that dollar amount on paypal.

If you have no records of the said transaction, then don't refund him/her, let them open up a dispute but since they used a method your store does not even support that won't happen.

Ignore them.
They are either trying to scam you or are confusing ordering from someone else's website for yours.
They can't initiate a refund if they didn't order from you so don't worry!:)

I think you can answer them that you don't have facebook pay and that you have no record of their purchase
You can't refund them if there is no record any where
Ask for the email they used to transact, you can also reconfirm that way

So when I told them to contact facebook they took it really well which (from my experience) means it was 100% a scam and not someone just mistaken. Most people would have lost their shit when I told them that.

This happens all the time with e-commerce sites. It’s either a scammer or someone that contacted the wrong site. I had one domain that was similar to another, just with “the” in the beginning of the name. I would get messages meant for the other shop sometimes.

i dont have much knowledge about shopify but if they buy something they should get a reciept or order confirmation via email with order number and your store details. if they cannot present that, their problem.

Ignore them.
