Shopify it's basically a cash cow, it will ask for money for every small thing you want to add.
Yes, Wordpress is a bit harder but it's cheaper in a long run.

In my opinion, Shopify is a little fast with a better user experience compared to WordPress/Woocommerce.
But if you can setup WordPress correctly, it can be on GOD LEVEL!
Woocommerce can be pleasing and fast as shopify but requires skills and time. I think that's why Shopify has been in business for long. The trade of between time and money.
Both platforms serve their purpose. For me, it's always a question of time. When I have an idea for a store, I test the market with Shopify, because its easy and fast to set up. Set up etc. doesn't take more than 30 minutes. If the traffic raise and the products work, then I set up WP + Woocommerce, to save monthly fees in comparison to Shopify.
Shopify is a better choice in my opinion, due to it's easy-to-use features, better performance, better interface, and better product management. However, if you are on a tight budget, than you might prefer Wordpress over Shopify, because you can get Wordpress hosting for one year at the same cost of Shopify monthly membership.
