Shopify asking me to buy a plan before I can sell?

So I thought I would start the trial and work on my website, then when a little money starts rolling in, I'd buy Shopify at the end of the trial depending on how I did. Now my website is almost done but Shopify is asking me to buy a plan before I can remove the password from the website, wtf? Is this common or something's wrong here?
Can't I start selling with the trial on?

You select a plan but they wont charge you till 15 days later

When I choose the 29$ plan, it takes me to a page where they ask me for my credit card details and stuff. Do you mean that they won't charge me until my trial is over?

Yes they won't charge until the trial is over. The trial started when you signed up, not when you add cc details

Will I be able to cancel it before my trial is over? If it comes to that?

Yeah haha theres a reason its a trial
