And now for a fun historical intermission.

Before the industrial revolution (i.e. for most of human history):

* Human piss was collected and used for tanning leather and at some point in the making of gunpowder. People would come and collect it from your house in vats, hung from a pole. And it wasn't a shitty niche - rather it was a very competitive one.

* Human shit was not very popular in Europe though, so you would pay "gong farmers" to dig it up from the cesspools and then dump in into the river or barge it away in a landfill.

* On the other hand, on some places with better agricultural technology like Japan, shit was never enough and yielded a good price - good enough that there were thieves who peddled in shit.

After the industrial revolution:

* At some point, dog shit was considered prime medical material, so people were fetching a price from collecting and delivering it.

* We have the "The Great Horse Manure Crisis of 1894". The cities were getting drowned in horse (and dog) shit, as a result of the immense wealth that was generated for the first time in history and created the middle class. So you had carriages and "bus" carriages (i.e. a bus that was pulled by many horses). And not only were the horse's CO2 emissions above the limit, their solid excrements would end up on the street (damn thee, gravity!). As a side-gig, they also pissed around So there were people getting paid to clean all that shit up. But it was not enough and this was considered a really serious threat to civilization.
