For my forum, I use a dedicated server from Shinjiru. However, the transfer speed is horribly slow (both FTP and SSH). Shinjiru support told me that this was due to the fact that I'm in Europe while the server is in Malaysia. Some additional latency is understandable, but going from 20 Mb/s (or even more, I can't remember exactly) with my DigitalOcean storage to less than 500 KB/s is clearly a problem.

At first, I thought it wasn't such a big deal since I could use cloud storage to store my backups and then download copies from there. However, after trying out a cloud storage provider, the transfer speed is still painfully slow from my server to the cloud storage provider (InterServer). So, it's definitely not an issue on my side.

I'm planning to move to OVH with a reverse proxy (AlexHost), but I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this problem before.

See ftp speeds are going to slow and at 500kb it's definitely very slow.

I would suggest you to keep using digital ocean or AWS or google cloud services. Anything from that will be just a downgrade.

The thing with cloud services like digital ocean the user experience is going to be great. If you don't believe me. Just make a website and put it on cloud and put same website on a hosting provider. Speed and user experience will always be a little better on the cloud which will give the billion dollars company feel to it.

Thank you for your reply.

I'm currently moving my backup to Digital Ocean. As for the forum itself, it requires too much space to use cloud services for hosting. I have a VPS from Alexhost (for other websites), and the speed in SSH or FTP is good. This is why I was surprised by Shinjiru's performance when sending the backup to cloud storage.
