So Mark Cuban just bought himself an SEO guy. The guy went in to sell a product that he was buying from overseas and reselling, he claims to have sold $100k worth of product in 4 months and bragged how he had the top 4 positions for "best xxxxxx"...anyway Cuban basically bought him for his brain $100K up front for 30% of the company and right of 1st refusal for any additional businesses he does in the future.

What is unique is that they typically only invest in products that are unique and patented and this product you or I can buy and sell so Mark Cuban indeed paid for his "brains"

What I found most interesting is that when I did KW analysis for "best xxxxxx" there was less than 200 exact match searches in the US p/month..LOL

I did not check the page 1 comp but just the search volume made me giggle. Anyway, good for him!

shark tank is a tv show where people trying to start a biz go in front of a panel of millionaires to get funding. Mark Cuban owns the NBA team the Dallas Mavericks..aside from that I really cannot help you if you do not comprehend the thread.
 
I think i saw that episode. I agree, it definitely was strange that he invested in that company without any intellectual property. They never invest in businesses unless they have patents or something unusual. I remember thinking to myself that it was stupid since there was nothing really special about their business. Mind PMing me the Keyword? I wouldn't mind taking a look...
 
i just the episode... the keywords he ranks for has 1600 exact searches p/m, but regardless he sells a high ticket item. It's a really good example of keywords with small search volume can generate massive amounts of traffic
 
Mark Cuban is the only billionaire there. I'm surprised he even gave the guy anything. 3 of the guys on there are tech guys, so you think they honestly wouldn't throw anything at him. I would love to go on that show though. Everybody who goes on gets a deal either from the sharks or from outside people who see the show and hear about them and invest. Hear the stories all the time of people rejected. Like this one guy made shrimp burgers and was only doing like 30k of sales a year but everybody loved his burgers. The sharks rejected him and some other investment company picked him up and when they did the little commercial special about him later he was doing 3 million in sales. Probably doing 10-30 now since it has been like a year and half or so. Real good stepping point for businesses if they have a solid product or service.
 
lol excatly what i did. without best... the site is 9th../ but the show was a repeat from pre penguin and probably recorded sometime last yr.
 
This show is great about to download the show and get my pitch better for the stuff i do.

Where are you located? For me its #2, but I'm also in a surf town. I'm guessing there is some Geo-results getting in there.

oh sorry maybe I was not clear. The best paddle.. is in the top but only has like 300 searches I think. Withouth best in the keyword it is 9th for me. Supposedly 12 yr Internet marketing expert ...not really sure what to think about that.
 
Shark Tank is an awesome show! I have seen that episode and what shocked cuban made that kind of deal with him. I think he just saw his thrive and thought with his help this guy can make him a lot of money in the future. There are a lot of interesting inventions on that show. We should start up a big JV and try to combine our brains to come up with our own invention to pitch to shark tank and each take a cut lol.
 
Right, so how does Cuban know if he just bought a guy with talent, or a guy that got lucky on one particular keyword. Not that 100K means much to him.

I don't like Shark Tank, because I don't think that's how business is done. It's "Hill-Billy Handfishin'" only they are wearing suits and not groping around in each others private parts underwater. That exterminator guy that grabs wild animals (like skunks) with his bare hands makes me crazy. I'm still sorry Steve Irwin is dead, and hope someday the exterminator guy gets mauled by a rabid animal. Some of these shows have gone so far past "Jackass" that there isn't a word in the English language to describe them adequately.

I think it has value for people who hope to come up with products and be in front of these type of people in the future.
 
Yeah, that episode was on pre-penquin but I was surprised too that he got a deal.

When you break down what that guy really did, it's sort of genius. Basically he ranked for a product, similarly like you would do with an Amazon review for a high ticket item. Let's take a $3,500 mountain bike. He got page 1, spot 1 and instead of getting the Amazon 6% he decided to make the mountain bike himself and profit 100% without any sales force.

Cuban is probably thinking, that this guy can do keyword research and every time he finds a product and ranks, Cuban can put up money to produce the himself.

That is a great show, I never miss an episode!!

Yeah you could gain some money to start with as being amazon associate... then when you have enough cash, buy some inventory and convert into non-amazon sales page.

I have the same feeling toward some of these local businesses. AC Repairman are easy to find; getting ranked #1 for <city name> <air conditioner repair> is where the profitable talent is. I've thought about ranking for the kw first, then hiring the contractor to do the work once the calls start coming in.
