Totally get the paranoia your SEO guy could spot a golden goose and go build their own flock. Easiest fix is to formalize expectations up front: NDAs, clear scope, and profit-sharing or milestone pay. Also limit access: give them what they need (e.g. GSC read-only, server logs) but not full admin keys. Trust is earned start small, prove results, then deepen the partnership.
