Sharing a Bad News

Two bad things happened in this month.
1) A firm rejected our investment proposal
2) We are shutting down our Amsterdam server.
I can explain. We are using a hosting service called power up hosting from an Indian company. They claimed to be DMCA free, but they actually are not. So we can not trust them anymore.

Moral: if some hosting company claims that they are DMCA free. Do not just believe that. Read some review about them. And (Please do not call me Racist) avoid Indian companies if possible

power up hosting is that from BHW ?

What's the thing with hosting providers being DMCA free?

The thing with Indians is that they're with a LOT and 90 out of 100 just don't give a flying fuck.

Most of my strongest workers are from India. Many of the hardest working employees at places I have been employed were also straight from India. While there may be an overarching inherent "laziness" factor, generalizations do nothing to change things for the better.

There are goods and bads of every nation. Likewise not every company you'll use from any specific nation can be regarded either good or bad.

Even I would suggest to stay away from some Indian companies but there are few who perform exceptionally well.

Doing proper research before buying a product is your responsibility as a buyer.

I too moved out few days back from poweruphosting after 3 months. I was also on DMCA free server but my issue was related to performance and downtime.
Firstly the had several issues, sometimes the websites didn't load sometimes error establishing db connection etc......
They changed the server ip twice in last 2 months and did not even bother notify me. When I discovered my websites were offline their support just told please change your cloudflare ip to ..... whatever new ip it was.
But the second time last week they changed the ip they said server was under ddos attack. But they never bothered to notify until i discovered this and asked them.
When I decided to move out last week, they disabled my cpanel access even after updating the new ip address in cloudflare. When I asked them they gave me a cpanel login info which first did not work and afterwards logged me in and automatically logged me out.

I was unable to take backup that day when I asked them they gave me a backup link from my cpanel but since the cpanel login was logging me out every time I was unable to take backup. I got a new host ready in next few days and tried to shift the websites. It was a bit difficult as I was at a place with slow internet connectivity but i manged it. Saddest part I lost one of the website the entire database for 1 of the website was corrupt. And they kept repeatedly saying we are trying to help you. My monthly paypal subscription was also due on 26th so I had requested to cancel the service and subscription in starting only. Once it was disabled they just ignored and said the service is cancelled and we we tried to help you. And yes after all this for calling their service shit they reminded me to please use kind language. I lost one of my website which I will start from the scratch again, maybe from wayback as it had good amount of content.

My view is that whatever happened ddos or anything I can understand that but delaying my cpanel access from taking backup days after changing ip in cloudflare, prompts me they knew about the database damage to one of my website and tried to avoid and run away with it. Deliberately delayed me from taking backups as I had decided to move to a new service. And after I discovered the damage they did nothing except saying to download backup they had with them which was of no use as it had the damaged sql dump.

And yes I had requested refund from these guys for 3 months and I was only issued refund for last invoice. I had issues each month it was just in the third month it became worse and I decided to move to a new one.
It was a very very bad experience. I moved to poweruphosting just because they had a good reputation here. I would say it was a bad choice I should have been more careful maybe, and could have been more professional maybe.

This is a very common story. If you are doing *anything* shady online you may have to deal with these sorts of things. Especially if you are not able to spend lots of money on good hosts that can truly keep you safe. Do you research up front, 99% of web hosts that say they will protect you are re-selling other companies services so they (and by proxy you) are bound to those companies TOS.

There was nothing shady here it was just they had the same price for NL datacenter and I came to know that it was DMCA Free so I thought to give it a try as I had never tried a DMCA free service.
These were all blogs and affiliate websites with just content.

As I said my bad decision to move to poweruphosting.

You should have made your own research. In India IT and copyright act are severe(for companies not for individual) .an registered entity can't be DMCA free.there are many good Indian services .any company from any country can cheat (mislead) like that.

This makes me feel sad.

Avoid Indian Companies? Why so? Just because you chose a bad one and without any research? Or avoid them because some of them act as tech support agents?

For that i will have way better counters for the next country you'll choose. Why? It is because scams aren't going away soon.

Secondly, people with shit knowledge about a Country's economy (who don't even know what the name of their own finance minister is) should avoid comments or better provide facts.

But what is the connection to Indian companies and avoiding them? I wish you to have 10% from my Indian clients/workers/freelancers that Im working with.

So what you say is (I suppose you offer vpn services), You run your vpn servers on rented virtual machines and don't have you own colo?

I wonder when power up hosting will chime in here
