I have a quick question for you. Is it possible to get shadow-banned on Reddit for downvoting too many comments or posts in a short amount of time? I ask because my friend was shadow-banned before, but he didn't break any Reddit TOS.
Reddit "fuzzes" voting, adding arbitrary upvotes and downvotes at time. The purpose is that when it detects bot behavior it can effectively shadowban their voting. Since everyone sees the fuzzing happen to them at times it's difficult to tell if your particular vote was being suppressed or you are just seeing natural fuzziness to the voting scores
While getting shadowbanned for just downvoting is unlikely, it's not entirely impossible. Reddit's spam filters can be a bit overzealous sometimes. Downvoting a lot quickly can sometimes trigger the spam filter if it thinks you're a bot trying to manipulate votes. Especially if your account is new or doesn't have a lot of activity. More likely, your friend might have gotten caught up in something else. Did they accidentally downvote a bunch of comments from the same user in a short time? That could look suspicious. Or maybe they were posting and downvoting on a new account way too fast.
Test a new post , try posting something harmless on a different subreddit and see if it shows up. Contact Reddit Support, ıf they're still stuck, Reddit support might be able to shed some light on the situation.
