Who says taxes kills you?

I haven't paid any taxes for years now and I skip it fully legally. I even contacted the tax authorities in the country where I have my company and where the money is generated as well as in the country where I live to check with them so I didn't do anything illegal that would put me in trouble so they for sure knows.

I don't pay taxes for neither my daily work (the company I own) and nor for any of the money I make on the side. All 100% legal!

Regardless of how retarded he sounds he's right about one thing...GO TO COLLEGE! He's talking out his ass about everything else but, beyond educational advances, college teaches you a lot of life lessons including time management, budgeting, deadlines, independence...etc. It also gives you a fall-back plan. I'd like to believe we're all going to make millions in IM but it isnt' reality. It's nice to have a 9 to 5'er and ramp up to full-time slow and steady without all the pressure of having to do it.

to be honest, you're friend seems a little too pessimistic and naive.
it's all about motivation and optimism.
if you're looking up and thinking you'll succeed with online business then go for it but be prepared to work! ya know?
i'm not so sure he's aware of the reality of jobs after college... i read the other day that college graduates usually return home and are jobless (in career field) for 1-3 years... aside from internships.
it's not as easy as he's expecting, i'm afraid.

Sounds like my dad with the college part. I would still go...that is after my online income is setup. But truthfully I need to get a person to do my taxes because I know nothing about taxes...but I guess my mom and dad can help lol

I would recommend going to college too, not for the "education" but for the experience.

He does make a decent point about taxes. If you are in the US you will get fucked royally. You can makeup for it somewhat with write-offs and being able to live where ever you want (hint: choose a place with a low cost of living).

I know a lot of people say taxes is no big deal. They write-off so much stuff (house, utilities, car, ect) that they pay almost nothing. From my experience and from talking with "tax professionals" you better have your shit in order because the IRS is going to come calling, and if you think you can bullshit them into buying some questionable deductions you might be in for a big surprise.

There are some people that you just can't change or make think differently. I say, use it to your advantage! It all comes down to this, we need those kinds of people in society. We need the people that think they "have to get a job" in order to have something to serve us/click on our ads/buy our stuff. What, like you want EVERYONE to quit their job, so you can no longer go out to a nice restaurant and have a waitress to serve you, a cook to make your food, and a dishwasher to clean it all up? lol. Yeah, you might think of it as a F-ed up way of looking at things, but in reality, it's the truth.

How can you use it to your advantage? Simple, agree with him, but say that you're going to tough it out and "try to live your dream". He'll laugh at you on the inside because he thinks he's right/he won. A few months later, when he doesn't have much cash because he's a "poor college student" who goes to school and works some craptastic minimum wage job to buy food, you get what you want. "Hey roomate, I know you need a few extra bucks, so instead of outsourcing my article needs to india, I'll let you write me articles for me, for $3 each. How many do you want to write?" Now you've got a "great" article source, and he needs the cash. You win.

A collegiate education has in fact taught me many things. Does it increase my job marketability? Yes. Does it guarantee me success or a job? No. While my education has assisted me in becoming more worldly, honed my computer skills, taught me how to effectually manage deadlines, etc. it cannot teach innate qualities such as perserverance.

In essence, many successful people has college degrees. Conversely, many more successful individuals do not have any formal training whatsoever. What differentiates these individuals? How can they both be successful? I will tell you why. Every successful person out there, educated or likewise, is internally motivated. They are driven to do great things because they are willing to perservere and choose to take chances when others will not.

Considering a career as a journalist in the rat race is basically 50% money I can't possibly see how it would be more advantageous than working off line, online you can make the same kind of money in a fourth of the time, register as a company, and hide half your income in offshore accounts or shady money transfer services....your buddy obviously is messed up!

Working for yourself is not only the best choice, but the ONLY choice for some people, because they have that kind of motivation. While I ran a couple of businesses in England, I was also a part-time lecturer in a College. (Part-time meant I was doing never less than 45 hours per week).

It is in my blood that I was getting so frustrated at the way the College ran that I wanted to buy it and run it myself, as I could also see ways to make money. Some people are not like that and are better suited to doing as they are told and getting paid for it, and it's a good thing too, or we'd have no service industries, and that includes the Medical industry.

Your room mate doesn't realise what an ass he sounds. I know more now than I have ever known and it only makes me realise just how little I know. He does sound like he'd make a good salesman though. I have a powerful personality too and could sell you Buckingham Palace...and you'd believe me that I had it for sale...lol

I agree with everyone here though, go to College. I went and ended up a few years later heading a department there. That was really sweet.

That guy doesn't know what he is talking about. The only extra tax I think I have to pay is the 15% self employment tax on the first $100k.. It just makes me lmfao because I am only 16 and I started making money online less than a year ago, and I will make more than $90k my first year! hahaha I love my life! I will still go to college, but I don't think I will ever work for anyone(ever), but I might make my own (physical) business.

There are two types of people, those who earn money for others, and those who earn money off the backs of other people. It sounds like your friend is going to grow up to be the former.

College IMHO is largely worthless nowadays unless you have a lot of money and just want to go to get drunk and do drugs. Affirmative action and the liberal takeover of the education system turned America from the best country in the world in terms of education in the early '60's to quite literally scoring next to people living in mud huts on the TIMSS.

For one, your roomate is the cliche "average guy" and thats good for the rest of us because it means less competition. There are always going to be people telling you to follow the system, because that it is what we our taught in the public educational system from a young age. If everyone was an entrepreneur how would these big corporation stay alive, they need blind followers to work their "factories".

Secondly, getting a College education means something completely different now than it did 20 years ago. People use to have go out and pay for information, today it is freely available on the internet. One thing you are guaranteed to get from College is A LOT of debt (20k+). I use to do web design & development, i have applied to jobs with no degree, and beat out all the applicants who had College degrees because i had a portfolio and real life experience. I got my own office and high paying job because i took action while the other people wanted everything handed to them because they had a degree but no real talent.

When it comes to taxes, you dont have to worry about filing if you're making less than 20k on paper. I have been told this by City employees where i work, take it how you want. If you can bring in money through paypal and other means its not as big of an issue as you might think.

Theres an online motivational speaker by the name of Steve Pavlina, and in one of his podcasts he makes a great point. He basically say you are more vulnerable working for someone else, because at any point they can terminate you and you financial lifeline. But if you are in control of your earnings you are less at risk because it all depends on you.
