Setting Your Desktop As A Video

I'm not sure if this works in Vista, but this is how I do it in XP:
Just play the video in VLC media player, then right-click on it while it's playing and select Wallpaper. I notice 0% increase in CPU usage, but you have to keep the VLC player minimized while it's playing.

It works for me on Vista Ultimate. I don't know if it works for the other versions of vista. It's called 'Dreamscenes'. It really doesn't use alot of CPU resource because it's just a continually repeated video clip. The more powerful your machine, the more seamless the video appears. Still, I don't use it because I view ANY non essential use of CPU to be a waste.

Just out of curiosity, does wallpaper slow down the PC? I've got four desktops and they all have their own wallpaper. I run Linux, not Win.

VLC media player runs on linux too, and no it doesn't slow anything down for me.

It only really eats your resources when you are staring at your desktop. I have a 2gig AMD 3700+ rag vista machine with shitty graphics that copes with it no problem. However animated wallpapers annoy the crap out of me anyway so I never have it on.
