SERPS looking ridiculous

Hey guys,

I've been monitoring a couple of serps and lately there's been weird sh*t going on.Like this one guy who has been #1 for more than a year is knocked down to #3 but the two sites that replaced him have really shitty links,I mean the number one has less than 100 backlinks and 80% of his links come from the same domain.And the links are all n/a...the other one isn't much better either.

The guy that used to be ranked #1 has more than a 1000 more or less relevant links and quite a few of them have high PR.He has great anchor text variation,too.The sites that replaced him have no anchor text variety whatsoever.It's all one keyword.

Has any of you noticed something similar,or is this just some weird anomaly?With all the talk about how important anchor text and IP diversity is,seeing something like this makes me question the whole thing.

I have also seen that kind of changes in SERPs... what I understand from that is that other signals than those we were used to are playing bigger role now in ranking.
 
I think Google is purposely trying to confuse people this month.
Sit back and watch the bigger picture, don't micro analyze it.

They really are bad, yes - I've noticed, too. They've been horrible for about 2 months, actually, and seem to get worse with each successive resort. Just last night a noticed an email submit form with zero content and one very obvious link wheel ranking page 1. The funniest I've seen yet, though, is any SERP relating to buying backlinks: Fiver* profiles ranking page 1, xRumm**/Scrapeb** services ranking page 1... hard to not see these as intentional, though - the more Google can get people to buy those services, the easier it will be to find sites that they'd rather not have in their index. (Incidentally, those rankings appear pretty stable too, being there for over a month now.)

I don't know if this is accurate across-the-board, but aged domains (3 years and up) appear to have, by-and-large, gotten a free pass, even though most of the profiles I have checked have 'unnatural' links out the wahzoo or clearly violate Google's TOS with the most superficial of investigation. I could probably post a hundred off the top of my head that obviously buy PR, for example, and the velocity of their link profiles is almost schizophrenic.

In my own personal searches, I'm usually having to go to the bottom of page 1 (at least) to find the most relevant results, and usually to page 2 and sometimes 3. I've used Bing and Yahoo more in the past 2 months than I have in all my other time on the internet combined, lol.

An unfortunate truth: most people on the Web doing searches are herd animals that Google can feed whatever they want and it will be assumed to taste like fillet Mignon by the searcher. In other words, Google is now in the same position that the advertising industry has been in for about 15 years: they get to tell the consumer what to buy; except with Google, they get to define 'quality' as it applies to search (thereby being able to tell searchers what to buy). I think Google may very well be testing the limits of this very thing, since providing adequate SERPs is far more profitable than providing the best SERPs for the searcher.

They want you to spend more time on SE itself, looking on ads. They can't just show shit as there are competitors like Bing, but they want to be just as much bad as they can before they scare surfers. This thing was started since Larry Page became CEO.

Webmasters have been complaining about the SERPS ever since Panda started last year, but I am seeing a lot more complaining now. Some veteran webmasters that have been around since the beginning are actually saying these are the worst SERPs they have ever seen. So you have to think. Is Google intentionally mucking up the SERPs to increase click through rates for PPC (always have to keep earnings expectations:), or is their quest to improve the serps and stop spammers actually made their SERPs worse?

I've actually taken a break from doing SEO because SERPs have been so out of control across almost all my sites. It started with the initial Panda updates but the latest ones have my sites bouncing all over the place.

I had a 12 year old site that was consistently #1-2 for a competitive keyword for quite a while along with top 5 for many other keywords. Now the site is ranked all over the place mostly page 2+. The site is probably my highest quality site out of all of them. That's just one site. I have many others with the same problem.

I'm just happy I've found an alternative source of income other than SEO because I would be hurting bad right now.
 
Maybe it's because of the sudden changes and updates in the SERPs, well, you should always monitor this changes or adjustments.
 
Google is tricking us :/ Well hopefully the low-quality sites are just dancing and will fall down
 
Wow, never thought that G might be fucking serps to get more PPC traffic... that's messed up if they are.
 
Noticed that too. One of my site was ranking superbly for an extremely competitive keyword.
Was raking in like mad through Adsense... when suddenly it just disappeared.

I guess that's the end of IM?

Oh well, I guess I will see the performance for this year.
If it is terrible, then I might leave the game temporarily.
 
Search results are terrible now, been noticing it for a while
It won't be long before bing/yahoo overtakes google if they keep up this bullsh*t
 
serps been everywhere for everybody this month, lets see if things settle down
 
well for my little understanding of the panda algo is site PR has less important now so having thousand of backlinks to your moneysite is not an assurance to sit top on SERP. I guess G is after for more quality content site rather than a good looking one but poor scrapped/spinned article content.
 
The key is to quit whining and figure out how to beat the system. Diversity is still key. Range of PR, both no follow and do follow, comments, forums, articles, press releases and so on. I had a site drop over the winter because of not doing anything and now it is back up to #2 just in time for the season to begin for the niche.
