I currently have a website that is 2 months old with 80 posts and only 10 of those posts are in the top 300 in the SERPS. Over the past two months i've purchased 2 reputable BHW backlink services for some of the keywords not in the SERPS. These services haven't been effective, and I ordered them a few days after the site launched. The keywords are low competition. Below is the information about my site.

The Site:
  • 80 posts, all uniquely written. Each post has the keyword density between 0.5-1.5% Keyword density and no other related words are over 1% density to ensure that there is no spammy keywords and I made sure no combination of words is over 1%. Each post has its own unique excerpt, a photo in the article, only 1 H1 and a few H2s. Only the H1 has the Keyword and usually follows the format of "Keyword: other words..."
  • Homepage: The homepage has static page with one article that is not found anywhere else on the site.
  • The site has 8 categories in which the articles on the site can only be found in 1 category.
  • The author, date, and subpages of archives are no index.
  • Categories, tags and media posts are no index.
  • I'm using the "Thesis" Wordpress theme. All the setting are in their default position except for the column width, which I changed to give the site a better look.
  • Widgets: the only widgets I'm using are the search and social buttons widget.
  • I've built links to several inner pages as well as the homepage. All done with unique content .

What changes do I need to make to get the keywords into the SERPS? If you need more information please feel free to ask.

Hello liver bird,

First of all I would tell you don't give up, you are definitely on the right track.

My main advice is keep adding more quality content, the more you add the more long tail keywords you will rank for, even if you dont rank for the money keywords that you are currently targeting.

With regards to link building, your website is young, I would recommend that you buy links from providers and then stop, what I would suggest is to have a service that slowly pushes links towards your site on a consistent period of time, you certainly don't want your website to be hit by 2000 links then nothing the following 2 weeks.

So keep on adding content, with moderate consistent link building and you will get there :)

You certainly don't need more content in order to rank. I have sites with only about 800 words on the entire site!

Google is slower to rank sites these days, but from what you said it's probably the link building services that have killed your site. Building slow steady links is better than a service that advertises guaranteed serp movements within a week etc.

all the links from the services were built and drip fed over a month, roughly a total of 500 links over a month across several different pages, all unique content

web 2.0, article directories, social profiles and bookmarks. the sherlock holmes backlink service and the magic rank, both from BHW

SERPs are too noisy. Just take some advice from people here, and just start trying stuff. Try out 5 different suggestions/methods you find on ehre and you'll eventually gain some insight.

Sounds like your stuck in the Google bitch period. Throw some social signal like fb,twitter shares and +1's at them with actual links to your pages. Might help out.

I'm also running into this problem. I keep building back links but nothing. On site is pretty good i'd say. I'd love to hear if someone was in this situation and how they got out. I wonder if it has to do with the May 14th update situation... I noticed this for keywords that are 3k+MS
