Serposcope 2 : new free and open source rank tracker

i got this error...Error: Unable to access jarfile serposcope.jar ,im installing on centos 5

This is exactly what we need - an open source SERP rank tool that anyone can audit and contribute to and webmasters can finally own their own ranking data without requiring a manual process or exporting data from a third-party tool.

Well if by web server you mean shared hosting or apache + php mysql, then yes it won't run on it because it is no more in PHP like the v1. You need a true dedicated server, or just a low cost VPS (But don't forget it can run on your computer too...).

But it's not hard, you just need to have java on your system. If you follow the instructions, it's not that hard. To set it up on ubuntu, including Java it requires like 4 or 5 commands. If you already have java, only 2 commands :


and it's done.

It's more difficult for mac user, because there is no installer like on windows and debian/ubuntu but it's doable too.

This is a wonderful tool. I've been playing with it the last week and it's amazing !

It's even good enough to make me cancel my serpbook account!

I just have 3 comments/issues ..if you can fix those I'm sure you will get far more downloads and active users.

1- Ability to make the cron run multiple times per one day. ( Rank checking one time per day only is not enough at all ..serpbook for example check every 2 hours)

2- Tweek the UI in the category ranking details page to make it simple and readable. Currently, it's more than awful. Example of neat and to the point UI





We just need to see the keyword , Ranking url , Historic Start rank , Current Rank , Day , Week and month changes. All in one simple to the point table.

You already have these data but you need to display it in a neat, smart and simple way.

3- Fix the cron job ..I always get errors in the cron task and when I recheck failed / errors manually it works fine. The manual task check is reliable but the cron task is always faulty!!.


If you make these changes / fixes you will have a great boost in your project. Simple tweeks/fixes will make a huge difference ( like the difference between night and day..especially point #2 )

I'm also willing to pay for these changes to make them happen.

Seems a really nice tool but as Zerzar requested, It could have been much much better if UI is Modified as per his suggestions since the data is already there, I don't think It would take much resources to change UI as user friendly with clean and easy to understand graphics.

This is really interesting and I'll surely keep a copy, maybe test it. The problem I'm having is that 'known' SEO proxy providers (like Squid Proxies) are having their private proxies nuked by Google at the moment. I have found over the last few months that it takes more and more private proxies to reliably get the same number of rankings returned within a given time-frame. For me, desktop-based rank tracking software is way less attractive than it used to be, due to the hours and money it takes to fix proxy networks and bad data when accidents occur.

Personally I'm moving on to web-based checkers where all that stuff is the responsibility of the platform (not me, I just don't have the time!) - that being said; I wish you all the best with the development of this tool. It'll certainly be useful for newbies! Great stuff, really outstanding

This is brilliant, I have been using it for some time now and it is a great tool. Thank you so much. If you need an idea on a new project please consider a backlink tracking & monitoring tool, that could replace Ahrefs.

That makes no sense, in order to "track backlinks" you need to explore the web and scrape it all, that takes a lot of resources, it won't be worth it to have a software that does that on a single PC, it will not scrape almost anything.
