Google is trying to ace out SERP rank tracking by auditing anyone pulling in AdWords data.

What does this mean? Basically if you want to comply with and use the Google AdWords API you can't be scraping the Google SERPs.

SERP tracking is getting less accurate with personalized and "logged in" results, but it's still important for SEO's to know were they rank from a non-logged in view as a base mark, otherwise what do you have?

Another blow to SEO IMO, maybe a win for all the SERP ranking tools popping up.

Maybe this will weed out the junk....and the top services will rise and find a way around everything.

i wonder if google iwll ever offer its own "rank checker"....stranger things have happened. Who knows...

Raven was awesome, it was the most accurate and allowed for enterprise tracking of KW's (1000s of KWs). As they want to continue to use the AdWords API they're complying to Google's demands and pulling the SERP tracker.

This means there is a market to push for a really good accurate SERP scraper, but I've not found a tool as accurate or as robust as Raven, other tools out there lack the depth and the reporting function as well. Alternative tools I've used have had huge discrepancies in actual ranking, as viewed via incognito mode with cache and cookies cleared vs the tools reported rank.

This is not good when clients questions the results eg:

"Your report shows #1 but when I Google it my website ranks #5" - this ruins your credibility somewhat.

Frankly speaking, go and purchase scrapebox Rank tracker it is much cheaper and accurate than other overpriced rank trackers. It uses different algorithm to check the ranking unlike others which use API. So no way scrapebox rank tracker can die

Start explaining the different datacenters and how Google relies on speed so they serve results based on the closest and quickest datacenter. They roll out changes based on datacenter testing and at any one time most of the data centers could be showing different results.

As their eyes glaze over, you stop and enjoy being the 'expert' in their eyes.

I have bought this. Scrapebox is awesome and the SERP tracker is good for a quick blast on a results check. But for reporting on 1000+ kws via a regular data centre its not good enough.

Yes very true, I suppose it depends on the client. It's just annoying as Google becomes more accessible to everyone... everyone becomes an expert lol

Oh, c'mon, not every rank checker out there buys adwords API. There are plenty of alternatives to Raven's SERP Tracker that don't do that.
And, all this talk about personalized search and the insignificance of rankings is just a way for Raven to excuse themselves, which is understandible.
However, there are SEO tools that track rankings in personalized results (http://www.johnchow.com/rank-tracker-supports-personalized-results-too/) as well as in a personalization-agnostic manner.

Absolutely! As this article suggests, Who on earth would need SEO tools that can?t track rankings?

The "non-logged" in Google results are still far more important because that's the first set of results someone will see when they search a product.

Will it be able to show EXACTLY what the client will see when s/he does a search on their own computer? Because that is the only metric that matters at the end of the day.

for those that popping up and those that exists for years, I'm using Sheerseo for 4 years now and it's pretty accurate.
also you got seomoz, authoritylabs are great etc..

Rank Ranger added a new feature a month or so ago that allows you track site rankings in Google?s personalized results.

Hope this helps!

How would they be able to do that? That's the biggest pile of crap that I have ever read!

What you look at on the internet and what I would look at are different things and NO rank tracker on the planet can mimick personal results for everyone
