Just wanted to chime in with my experience so far and what I plan on doing from here on out, business wise and saftey wise.
All of my businesses are physical product based. I purchase wholesale, store the inventory, then ship. I buy from the US and China. I am concerned with how the virus is spread and if it can be spread through touching objects such as packages, coffee mugs, plastic toys, clothing, etc. All we know is that it is airborne. I am not willing to take the chance of ordering from a wholesaler and receive a box of physical products that can or may be contaminated with the virus. I already know a good portion of American customers are going to be alarmed when they see "Made in China" on their products from this point forward. Therefore, I have cut China from my business altogether. Since I don't know if the virus can be spread through packages and objects, I have cut physical products from my business as well for now.
I am going to re-group and replace all my physical products with digital products. I no longer want to ship anything because I am afraid to touch anything! Which is such a bummer because I love designing, developing, and shipping products. Shipping services in the US may come to a halt pretty soon anyway if the US goes under quarantine. So, instead of crying, I may as well adapt and move into another area of e-commerce.
For those who say it's just a flu and if you have a strong immune system, you will be fine. That may be true, but the problem is not me or you getting it. The problem is that you and I could spread it to someone else who may not have a good immune system. No one has ever caught this before, so it is foolish, even on the part of "scientists" to say there is nothing to worry about. SCIENTISTS DO NOT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN UNTIL YOU GET SICK. They don't know everyone's body. They don't know how each individual on the planet will react to things. Some people can take Morphine, some people can't. Doctor's don't know until they give it to you. That's a fact.
Doesn't really seem like people are concerned for the safety of others. If they feel good, then they refuse to take precautions. That is how this has spread all over the world. People not taking it seriously are the ones spreading it. Like the guy on the basketball team touching everyone else on the team, thinking there was nothing to worry about, and now he and another teammate have the virus. Causing the whole NBA to be shut down. The other teammate may have children or elderly parents at home who can now be affected. That's why this is serious. A lot of people are fine with reacting to the virus after it happens, but some of us would like to prevent ourselves and others from getting it at all. So just be mindful of others. Cover your mouth, wash your hands, and do not go outside anywhere if you don't really have to.
