SEOs, do you use Google Tag Manager?

Today I have been asked by a potential client how confident I am with using Google Tag Manager. I have been into designing, creating, analyzing, and selling websites since 2016 and I rarely ever had to deal with the tag manager. Tbh, I'm not even 100% sure what it does.

Is it because I suck at SEO or tag manager is just not relevant in 2024?

The time needed to get GTM up and running is negligible and gives you way more control over tracking pretty much anything you need to.

Completed a purchase? Check. Submitted a form? Done. Measuring scroll depth? Easy.

Afterward, you can funnel the data into GA / Ads / FB / any desired platform, tailoring it to your preferences.

While there's a slight learning curve for the more intricate tasks (having JS knowledge is a big advantage), mastering the fundamentals is straightforward.

So yes, it's super worth IMO.

Goddamnit, I hate GTM, it's literally easier to get conversions up and running manually in source code lol...

Everyone wants it since industry standard or whatever.

So you basically need it if you sell something on your website. What if it is a content site? A traditional blog that makes money by showing ads or affiliate links.

I know this is an old thread, but couldn't that s*it be used to mark like different content strategies and then check out stats later, to see how much traffic, bounce rate, time on site you have with differnt categories?

It's probably pretty useful but it requires enough amounts of data, a big number of posts so you can query and make sense of that stats.

If we had some standardization we could even aggregate that data and have more powerful statistics and insights (same categories/tags for the posts).
