The people who are saying this are miss-reading the fact that Google is continually pushing to focus more on content quality and accuracy rather than backlinks. At the end of the day where ever there is search there will be SEO. Where ever there is a computer, there is a human who can trick it.
SEO will stay around, but the strategies continue to evolve in order to continue to outsmart the search spiders as they grow more intelligent. When the day Search engines aren't used anymore that's when SEO Will vanish.
Google changes the algorithm and the way it performs. That is done mainly to avoid spammy seo methods that are harmful to the viewers. strategies keep on changing and both SMO, SEO are interrelated to each other. Now its getting the new name as digital marketing. So, SEO won't end up, they take a new look.
So how will system work by your opinion then. If someone created website before a few years and get on top, how do you need to expect to replace him. Even if someone just bought domain and quit from working he will be better ranked then me ?
Even if Google disappeared SEO would still be very much aliv because other engines would take its place. While Google is only becoming bigger and certainly won't disappear, you never know how they'll shift the use of their search engine and what implications that will have on SEO - always be ready to adapt.
I don?t think we can get rid of SEO. As long as there are people that rely to the internet for information then there will be websites and tons of websites that will provide that information, hence the need for SEO. Google could and would change their algorithm every now and then but they are not going to get rid of SEO.
