I have a few questions for the SEO Veterans out there. I am a freelance web and graphic designer as my "day job" but I also do some IM on the side, not too heavy on it yet as I am still learning though. My latest project involves an E-Commerce site that I made with magento (Hand made from scratch by me).

The site has just been completed with all the products in the system, tiered pricing for consumers and wholesale, synced with quickbooks, automatic shipping label printing, the whole nine yards. The site generates good revenue for being so new, but it is limited to traffic through Adwords advertising at the moment with a conversion rate of about 10% so far. Its not doing too bad.

I was paid my full rate to do it, and now they are keeping me on board as a consultant to basically hold their hand for a 10% revenue share. So this is where I need some assistance from my fellow BHW members.

I just purchased scrapebox (and proxies) and have been using it for about a week now, and I know the basics of building backlinks to your "moneysite" and sub pages and all that junk, but I was wondering if it would be a different process for a legitimate E-Commerce site.

Should I just be doing keyword research for a few main keywords and creating backlinks to the homepage? Or should I be doing long tail keywords for specific products back to the specific product pages?

Also, would you guys recommend just spamming heavy links to blogs of all kinds, or manually commenting the high PR blogs?

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and reply. :D

Nobody wants to give me some advice? I would be willing to offer some free design work for someone that can give me some good tips. I am a very skilled designer.

I have a couple of osC and zencart sites and what I do is break the keywords down into three sections.

1. the long tail exact product keywords
2. the category keywords
3. your main short keywords

I would start with the product keywords, linking mostly to the product pages with maybe 20% of those links going to your category and main pages and 80% to the product pages.

Once you see some movement start on your category pages. You want to do the same thing, put 80% of the links to your category pages and 20% to the main page.

Once you have some rankings going on for your product and cat pages start hitting the main page for you main keywords. With the nice base of related links you will find it easier to rank for it.

I do it this way for a few reasons. First off if you start with the long tails you usually get quicker results and some sales earlier than you would if you concentrate on the main keyword. Those long tails get a lot less searches but as a general rule they convert better as they are buying keywords. Second you increase your chances of getting those double listing by splitting the keywords 80/20 which is always a good thing. Now the 80/20 is just the number I have had pretty good results with. I have not done any testing against say75/25 or 70/30 to see how the results differ. My guess is that the results would be similar. Third having all those supporting keywords going to the main page makes getting your main keyword easier to rank.

Yeah, the good way is:
- keyword research to find more low competition kws. It's easier to rank for long tail kws.
- create the posts or categories targeting these kws. Remember to include the keywords in the Url, title,...
- build backlinks to these deep urls.

Thanks guys. Solid advice. Much appreciated.
