Does using SEO Ultimate for wordpress and editing the meta descriptions for each post help for on page seo and serps?

Okay, Just wanted to make sure about the meta descriptions for each post. I did not want to waste time editing them all if it did not help at all. Any suggestions for me on what to change etc?
My SEO strategie using SEO Ultimate
1) Before you start to create an article, try to search the global searchs (Adwords tools) and insights:
Then you can find specific keywords and also long tails.
2) You can write your post title same as "long keywords" , example: "How to use Wordpress".
3) Meta Keywords: Post Title, Main Keywords, some long tails keywords
4) If you going to use images, fill all informations (ALT, description, etc).
5) Meta description: I start my description with the Post Title, example:
"How to use Wordpress? This is a commom question about Wordpress. Wordpress is a nice system (...)" and I try to use another keywords / long tails in the description.
6) Excerpt: Ctrl c + Ctrl v of Meta Description
