The 80/20 rule applies to this specificly. I spend 80% my time on white hat what google wants. It takes a lot longer to go out of style.
I spend 20% of my time with gray/black. To get quick boosts. This seems to help me hit the sweet spot of long term and short term growth.

What who told you that?
I would say that its not even close. I track my rankings on both. Ill be #1 on google and not even show up for the same search on bing and vice versa.
