Hi Folks,

I am in the process of creating an SEO strategy for a client and to be honest it is only my first SEO strategy. As a starting point I am using the strategy posted on Search Engine Journal. The two questions I have for now:
- Should I include keyword research in the SEO strategy as well, or is this something that is just picked up after you've written the SEO strategy?
- Should I also add other baseline measurements, such as the technical state of the website? Or is this also something you don't map out until you get started with the actual work?

I'm curious to hear your opinions

Thanks!

Keyword research is the most vital part of any SEO strategy. Do not exclude it in any case.

Technical SEO should be included as well related to the website.

To answer your questions -

1) Yes off course! Without keyword research how will you plan your seo actions?

2) What I understand from your statement "technical state of the website" is you are talking about "Onsite SEO". It includes correcting the technical architecture of the website. This is an essential part of any SEO campaign. You have to repair/ maintain your site for loading speed, AMP support, broken links and get rid other plethora of technical errors, etc.

A technically sound website boosts your chances of ranking higher for sure.

To summarize, tell your client that this Onsite SEO and Keyword Research will go simultaneously as you start doing SEO activities.

Yep, thanks. Yeah, with technical state i mean show the analyses how the website is technically performing right now.
