Here's the easiest way to find relevant links for your site. Nobody discusses this..... just google your freaking keywords! Go through the first 50 listings, you're bound to find comments you can post on, forums you can join, maybe a directory or two. Those are the top ranking sites for those keywords! You think you might want a link from them?.... granted some niches will be more scarce than others, but that's as easy and as whitehat as SEO gets.

Put your site on Manta, Yelp, Citysearch (make up an address, it doesn't really matter for the profiles.... just stick to the same one), create profiles on website review sites, consumer review sites, yellow pages, super pages.... you think those might be nice links to have? They'll be indexed in a heartbeat; follow/nofollow doesn't really matter here.

Add some manual bookmarks to all your pages, just install a plug-in like Onlywire and and syndicate them out. Or use Hootsuite for the same purpose.

There, now you have at least some sort of whitehat link foundation for your site. Now you can go and start applying your automated link building.

Xrumer blasts will sink you for link velocity eventually, and Scrapebox AA blasts are completely toxic now (something to bear in mind).
