SEO Steps and Procedures

What do you find is the process to begin your SEO journey? In other words, what is a quick synopsis of the process of making an analysis and planning your assault?

There are plenty of threads and books that discuss SEO, but I'm looking for a concise bullet list of processes that generally work and are good practices to follow as your going about the task or to allow deeper exploration down the tunnel.

Even enumerating tools for specifics would be fine, for example:
1) Use Marketing Samauri to do:
2) ...

Again, I know that this is discussed ad infinitum, but I have yet to find a "cheat sheet" approach to it that helps someone to get started and to really have a structure upon which to hang their knowledge or further reading so as to have a place into which to insert what they learn into a holistic picture.

It's really good. It will seem like alot of things are wrong but doing all that plus backlinks will really get you going.

never used IBP .. sounds cool tho

So regarding this, the initial start off is that it asks you to provide a url, etc. Then it appears to not actually do anything with this and take you straight into a checklist / instruction list. Is this correct?

And is one to just follow these instructions/steps then in order to take full advantage of the application?

I would assume that at some point it starts to zero in on keywords, kpi and other such info?

ALSO, how does this compare to Market Samurai in your experience?
