SEO services - Give reports or no?

I own an internet marketing firm...

We only give out ranking reports. "Real Clients" as BassTrackerBoats has made clear are to busy running their businesses. What kind of CEO has time to look at 100K links or however many your building let along analyze them.

People hire SEO/IM firms for a reason... because they don't know how to rank.

Just to be clear: We're talking about a SEO service for webmasters *, not a service for end-users that would like to be #1 on Google.

* Backlink building, blog comments, forum posts, linkwheel/pyramid building, web.20 properties, etc.

That would be called link building and yes reports will have to be given for it.

Despite risking deletion of your network from Google?

What do you do if you don't get the desired results for your client? Im sure their going to ask what did you do. What do you say without revealing anything? Me as the client would what to know what you did, regardless if I understand it or not.

I think there's two cases :
1. If you do SEO for a company, a lawyer, a physician or whatever then you should only provide a ranking report.
2. If you are doing it for a webmaster or an intermediate Seo service company then you should provide a detailed report because they need an have the ability to check for the quality of the work and backlinks.
My 2 cents.
