SEO SearchTerms Tagging 2 - Safe?

There has been speculation that the WP plugin SearchTerms Tagging 2 is a footprint for Google and not to use it. What do you guys think?

many people have got penalized/deindexed cz of that plugin after the panda update
 
Yea. DONT use it. I put in on one of my blogs and I started dropping in the SERPs.

Is there a good alternative tagging plugin?

I've been using YQL Auto Tagger but it hasn't been updated for a long time and is acting erratic on some of my wp blogs (it say's it is only compatible for WP versions up to 2.8.5 and I'm mostly running 3.1.1). Symptoms I'm running into include tag + and - buttons to add and remove tags were not showing up and no tag suggestions being found.
 
It's all depend on how you configure the plugin.
I think if you did not set to save too much search term as tag, it would be save.
I have ever read it, which is confirmed by the author of this plugin. :)

agreed. if you set the configiration to only store low numbers of searches you're more likely to be ok - i.e. i have my settings at 15 search terms displayed - whereas i know some people were displaying 100 to 500 search terms on their web pages which is almost the equivalent of the old 'keyword stuffing' technique from days of yore...


...it would be interesting to know what settings are being used by other posters on this thread (those who are saying that this plugin isnt working for them and is actually working against them)
 
I've been using it with one my site it only displays 5 search terms, have not been penalized just getting traffic from some related keywords I wasent aiming for.
 
Ive just removed this, installed just before Panda and my hits went down by 800ish a day :( thought it was just Panda, so thanks for the advice everyone
 
I have been using it and I have it set for 40 terms at the end of the post and 10 for the widgets. I did recently drop in rankings a bit (about 7 places) but I do not know if it was this plugin or if it was the SB blasts....I am waiting to see as it has only been a few days since blast

thats really not an informative or even remotely helpful statement though is it?

in fact, its along the lines of 'youll go to hell on judgement day if you dont believe in xyz....'

PROVE it to me and youve got a convert. TRY and explain it to me and i'll listen. TELL me not to do it for no other reason than you think i shouldnt and im going to ignore you and listen to people who want a sensible conversation.

the ONLY voice that we should all listen to is Googles, but theyre not talking about the subject and theyre unlikely to break their silence any time soon, so the only thing we can do IF we want to use this plugin is help each other interpret whats going on and we do that by sharing our experiences.

so, would you please explain why you think STT2 is bad for a blogs health, based on what experience and using which settings?

The main function of this plugin is to save search term as tags. It is good for our SEO. The bad thing goes when you save too much search term, (I use 1000) it will return too much tags that not related to your post, or something like keyword stuffing. And I think this is why you get penalized.

And 1 more thing I noticed, when you put a widget (recent search, popular search, or random search) and set it to link to your search page, you'll get penalized. I think it is because your search page will not display a good result, and only unrelated result to visitor's searches.

Many many many people says me this is a really nice plugin...
But I tested it on one of my auto-blog and overnight my site go down in SERP.

I lost 70% of my traffic in 24-48h... Page 1 to page 5.
And today I work hard to just swing between 4-5-6...

Be careful.

There are about four posts on this topic, and from what I'm reading there is a trend to those who have suffered a drop:
1. No unique content i.e. Autoblogs
2. Over 15 search tags which would equate to Keyword stuffing
3. In the settings they have "Yes, Link to Search Page" selected.

If someone has suffered SERP and doesn't fit one of the three, I would like to know. I've seen crazy traffic generation by using this, but I would shit-can it in a heartbeat to protect my site.

I had 370+ indexed pagines on google.
I just woke up and only 320 indexed pages left in google...

I've always used the SST2 plugin, but since I started following this thread I began to feel it. Should I disable it? I've deleted all search tags (reset), set the number of the widgets to '5'.

I cannot understand why I get my search tags appear in the Tag cloud... keyword stuffing is it called right? Now remove them manually?

Can the Alexa ranking bar (I added yestherday) affect google?
 
Don't know, but i have been using this in my site and i rank first for almost all my keywords. And this is making me to wonder if i should keep using it or remove it.

Yes, it really is an awesome plugin... but with the latest google updates etc. I don't want to take any risks. It's really cool that you can see recent searches in the widget bar... But I don't like the keyword stuffing it does... wonder how to disable that

I agree with this..
I got many of my long tail keyword on their good SERP. and of course I got my traffic increased.
