SEO related - use new or used domain?

Hi,

I'm starting a blog and - being practical and wanting not to spend too much money - I decided to use one of my domains that was used for some redirect scripts. I used it as redirect on tumblr and in time the domain accumulated PR 3.
Now I'm wondering if Google will downgrade my SEO at some point because these backlinks are not related to subject I'm planning to blog on (my subject is programming related).

What do you guys think? Go with new domain or use one that already has a bunch of backlinks?

Well OP it's better to start with an aged domain because of "sandbox"

Well I will just say that you need to use an aged one on this one. Just throwing my 2 cents in.
 
Buy and aged domain that has relevant backlinks to your niche.
 
If the site's links are topically relevant, use the old site, if not - don't bother.
 
Even if not related content, having an aged domain can be of some value. But the aged domain must have pre-existiing links to it and these links must be from good sources not from harmful spam like websites. Otherwise, there is little value to an old domain with bad links and or little to no links.
 
Thanks guys, I think it's best to either seek to buy an aged domain in same niche or to get rid of this one. Problem with this domain is that it was used - I might have mentioned - for redirect purposes. I have a bunch of different niche tumblr blogs that bring me revenue, all of them being fully white hat, but still cannot be considered related nor of any significance to the blog itself. That's why I'm worrying it will simply downgrade my serp.

In any case, I'm fully aware it's just a beginning (like those assholes from initial responses kindly suggested), but I'd rather plan for clear future than think how to fix things at some point.
