EMDs are not that great anymore, they get penalized easily. Generally, homepage are tricky to rank as it's not that easy to incorporate your keywords in the URL.
Exact match domain is no longer effective according to ranking factors by Google. You can generally incorporate your targeted keywords in Meta Data and content of your homepage. So that's also a fact if your domain name will be the keyword then maybe it will show on 1st in case your domain name is same with your company's name. First you need to check out the competition your keyword in carrying.
EMDs do still help a bit. But you do have to be more careful with them. It depends what the EMD is really. If it's something spammy like 'best xyz' then I wouldn't bother.
