Lets assume following scenario.

best product for XYZ - 1000/m

This is the main keyword. Now product comes from various brands in all different colors and sizes.

So you have main article that lists best product from different brands, colors and sizes

Now there are few more targeted keywords for brands, colors and sizes and other specific features like

best brand1 product for XYZ - 150/m
best brand2 product for XYZ - 100/m
.
.

best color1 product for XYZ - 100/m
best color2 product for XYZ - 90/m
.
.

best size1 product for XYZ - 80/m
best size2 product for XYZ - 60/m

So my question is that should one target these secondary keywords in main article.

Or it is wise to create more articles for these keywords.

Bumping......

Any views guys...

Based on the search volume alone, I would personally utilize the secondary keywords in your main piece of content. It'll add more value to your pillar page, give it some length that'll help boost you over competitors, and probably generate a lot more long-tail traffic as well. As long as the secondary keywords are very relevant to the topic of your main page I'd say throw it in the mix and make a massive product guide rather than breaking it up. If those terms were getting 500+ searches a month each then it may be worth creating individual pages for them, but at 80-100ish I'd say you're better off adding it in your pillar piece and building links to it.

Get a one big ass article targeting the main keyword and use brand names in them.

Are you using that data for a blog or product page content? I've assumed blog as you said main article

What I would do is format the content around "best product for XYZ" then as you get into the content structure some of the data as lists and tables.

Sub title / sections for each of the sections about brand, sizes and colours.

if it was me without knowing what it was id list the colours as bullet points. Sizes as a table (if its an item you wear) with sizing charge for US/UK/EU if its just dimensions you can go list or table with it in cm/mm/inch

Brands I would list as a bullet list BUT then after that list I would do an insert or card / editors note linking to a similar article where you can compare the best brands for XYZ product and then follow a guideline for standard product reviews/comparison.

Now you have created another linking internally / cross linking and can push the reader deeper into the site to find out more information and link back to any specific affiliate or marketing scheme you have set up for either all brands or specific brands..

This way you have 1 article that is targeting everything you want all KW/Search results covered.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends.

You do not create articles for keywords. One article should target 1000's of keywords.

You create an article for user intent.

So you would have separate articles if there's a distinctly different user intent.

Best cat breeds for old people

should not be in

Best cat breeds

It's tricky sometimes and you have to go with your gut.

Ie, "Best Large Cat Breeds", may or may not be good. You have to look at the competition, what google is ranking for that and make the decision based on that.

You can even create an Ultimate guide with all possible combos + using viable keywords. Can be certainly very authoritative :)

Targeting different keywords in one article not a good idea.

If the user intent is way different you might want to create severals
If not then you should write a nice and complete article/guide
