I was in the same boat some time ago.

What I do is not exactly the best but it works fine.

1. Install a forum and make it private in any of your domains.

2. Start a new thread for every project you have to do.

3. Update progress by posting replies.

hi i have used free project management software "dotproject" before and i have one word it rocks.
you can install it with fantastico with one click

hope that helps

I use microsoft project- comes with office it works great. It has a list of tasks, resources, time allowed, milestones, team members, customizable fields, price costs- everything you need. You can even produce graphs and charts of progress.

there are free online pm tools on the intertubes. Or get a torrent for ms project.

If you need to collaborate with others, I suggest that you either invest in a hosted solution. or there are free ones that you can download or install on your server.
the $50 bucks a month is worth it for the service i use

I like Basecamp with 35 projects, 15GB, and unlimited users at 49.00/Month and i like it, but if anyone here could suggest anything as good that i could install on my server i would very much appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Philgood

We Use Freelancer Panel,

Your Clients can sign up, from there you can invoice them, they can send suppotr tickets, you can add projects / to-do tasks etc.. and set % complete

In my opnion it works pretty well for any freelance.

I just created an account with Basecamp and am very impressed with it so far. They offer a 30 day free trial and I found a coupon code "5E8CPH3SMJ" which then gives $10 off first month incase it is useful for anyone...

I second the sue of Action Machine by Wiz, it totally rocks for getting stuff done and your time managed. Not only just your online projects but even your daily projects around your day to day life.

Ive been liking Basecamp myself too. Very simple to use. I've heard EasyProjects.net has a decent program setup.

joomla & projectfork no need to keep paying monthly dues on it either :)

am customizing my own version of at the moment to do reports, and use my own seo tools etc...

I was actually planning of managing my projects through a private forum at my site, but I accidentally discovered the twitter solution.

My online project management tool right now is twitter. I have several accounts each with the name of a role I'm playing. So, any time I do something, I just twitter in the specific role. I also send messages or reminders to my other twitter personas as if there are two people talking to each other.

I find this twitter solution good enough to keep me sane while I juggle around several tasks at a time. I actually find myself able to focus on the tasks at hand and exclude what does not belong.

By the way, I just follow myself or my own accounts at twitter because my purpose is simply to manage myself. I don't bother following others. It just mess up my timelines.

Another online tool I will be using more frequently is Zotero. It's a Firefox plug-in that allows you to have tidbits of information both in your computer and online. This is because of its synchronize feature.

As a tool, Zotero was designed for researchers and writers. So, programmers may have to adapt their working habits and think of that context. Anyway, it still is an interesting tool to use for project management.
