Seo plan for client - need some advice

I have a client that wants to sign up with me

they asked me about the price per month, i mentioned 500 usd per month, now they stick with the price. I said that not much can be done for 500 though.

What do you offer for american customers, how much do you do, your prices.....

I do not sell seo but if I did I would make sure that my hourly rate was reasonable.

Well.. I think thats not the right way to approach this matter. 500$ a month for a seo project to me its fine ( still depending on the competitor but in general it ok ),

then in a month or 2, that's your chance to build something with your client: trust, knowledge ( you need to educate the client so they know about how seo work ) and prove your skill.. all this things will help you when you want to negotiate your payment. The world is not gonna ending soon, and try to think this is not the only client you gonna get that you are going on a shotgun on him.

this is come from a real experience, on odesk, I start from 2$, up to 20$, i started from 2010. from 2010 i got nothing, since at first I try like 10$/hour then after change the strategy, in the last 6 months i got the raise up to 15$, got a bonus last Christmas, and he bring me another 2 clients with 20$ rate ( I dont think im gonna stop here too btw)

Im not saying this way gonna work for everybody tho, just something to consider. there are always room for an improvement.

I'd say you base your fee off of what the client stands to make from ranking #1 or wherever you're trying to get on page 1 if it's very high competition.

If the client only stands to gain $250 a month from ranking #1 for whatever you're doing then your fee of $500 is unreasonable.

If they stand to gain $5000/month from what you're doing then $500 is a good place to start and you should work your way up to $1000 or so per month.

Charging more than the return the business owner sees is an easy way to not get your contract renewed. But if they're paying you $500 and making $5,000 that's a good way to get referrals/more work from them.

but i hate poeple spending like 5000 usd for a jewlery fair, boot... and they complain if you charge them more then 500 per month

they do not value marketing jobs I think, they think we are a cheap service

I think $500 is sufficient. You have to make more keyword density, forum posting, back linking, link wheel etc. to acheive it fast.
You have to take care of on site and off site both SEO tool. You can take help of backlinksindexer for back linking.
