SEO penalty when content is translated & use on a different blog?

I want to translate articles from my English language blog with a Blog in the Tamil language. The articles would be translated. Could there be a penalty for duplicate content?

I don't think so, but focus more upon user friendliness as the translation should be good enough for your Tamil readers.
 
Translate the content (without software) and add additional valuable info it. That way you will be safe from Google penalty
 
if you translate without a software so that Tamil speakers can read and learn from it, well and good, no duplicate content penalization whatsoever
 
There isn't any advantage of translating any English blog into Tamil because google's bots can judge this thing and when they got that you are just translating all the content , Google will put your CPC and ranking Down so try to write original content !
 
Use a plugin that rips content via rss and automatically translates the content. That way you can make a set and forget site. If it doesn't pick up in rankings, you lost no time and effort.

I used to do it all the time and made decent money. But not too sure how well it would perform these days. But like I say you have little to lose once it's setup. If it doesn't naturally pick up keywords just off content, then it probably isn't worth investing time or money into. One thing I'd suggest is using an old domain to start with.
 
Tried and tested - you can compile some english articles, spin it a little, and then only translate the already-spun text into your given choice of language, and it should work accordingly.
To make it more unique, combine sentences from other articles into the main one, and then perform the above.
Most importantly, use a domain that has country level TLD, and couple that with the translated content, it should work fairly well.

Would a direct translation count as duplicate content in your experience?
