Hi there,
just some opinion.

For the articles:
Best Headpones
Best Gold Headphones
Best Leather Headphones
Best Sony Headphones

Would you go URL :

/best-headphones
/gold-headphones
/leather-headphones
/sony-headphones

or

/best-headphones
/best-gold-headphones
/best-leather-headphones
/best-sony-headphones

I have been doing the latter for a while. But now I start noticing google indexing /best-leather-headphones higher than my /best-headphones and others with /leather-headphones are ranking higher maybe because more specific.

I know URL counts for little, text, links etc are more important etc. Let's just talk about the URL.

Thanks

The URL is just a small part of the reason behind one page ranking higher than the other.. I wouldn't stress too much over the URL as long as it is clean, contains the keywords and isn't very long..

Thank you, but this is the answer I would expect from Google Webmaster Forum. I came here on old good BHW hoping to get less politically correct opinion.

I know of course the text counts more. But keeping the text equal, which URL would work best in your opinion?

/best-headphones
/best-gold-headphones
/best-leather-headphones
/best-sony-headphones
These URLs are short, concise and carry all the keyword. I would go with them.

OK, that's borderline offensive, calling me a webmaster forum helper. I told you exactly how I see things, getting caught up in small problems like this is how you lose a lot of time and in SEO you don't have a lot of time to lose. Spend more time on the content, the links, the URL structure is way less important than you make it out to be. Have you ever seen a big website using an SEO oriented URL? They use the title as the URL and it works for them. That's because they focus more on the website itself than tiny problems.

I would prefer second option..

Here is a tip for you: make your URL meaningful, and do not half ass it. I say the latter way is half-assing it.
Feel free to make your own decision though.

In other words, SEO involves making certain changes to your website design and content make your site more attractive to search engines. SEO is the process through which organizations to help make sure that their site ranked high in search engines for keywords and phrases that are relevant

Ok ,any and all of those keywords are fine but you need to analyze who is winning because of on-page and not links or authority. I would target the SERP you can win in a reasonable time.
Ok to touch on the hyphen question or best-keyword , always go with the hyphen get your keywords in the URL if you can , it's one of the strongest on page factors. Hope this helps.

the ones with /best- first. Tacky though from a user’s perspective browsing on your site, but from a searcher on Google, I would definitely click the one with “best” in the url and title more than I would a generic “gold-headphones” one. I always pre-empt my searches with a “best” for practically anything I’m researching and my brain associates the URL with what I’m after. And other searchers might do the same and hence click your link more and snowball for a higher ranking. You noticed it ranking higher not because of the URL as others have stated but because of the combination of other factors that rank your site.
