SEO Link Question For Software

Hi,

This has been bugging me for the last couple of weeks and I cannot think or find an answer.

I sell software, as we all know, software has many updates, so it would be listed as Amazing Software 1.0.0, then you get a bug fix, so it becomes Amazing Software 1.0.1

I keep all previous versions on my site for download, all on seperate pages, my question is, if I wanted to create a link for Amazing Software, for example in an article, where do I direct it to?

If I direct it to Amazing Software 1.0.1 and then Amazing Software 1.0.2 is released, I would have to keep manually going back and altering the link.

I did think about directing it to my home page, but that would annoy me if I clicked the link and it didn't take me to the product.

The only 'solution' I can come up with is, direct the link to the search results page for Amazing Software but I don't know how that would affect my rankings?

Any ideas please?

Create a single landing page for the product .

Example , Say domain.com/amazing-software.

Push all the updates on the single lander. Moreover, It’s ok to keep records of older versions of the software on the same page too.

Thanks for your reply, I'm using WordPress, which I should have stated and every time a new release comes out, we make a new page as unsure how to combine products on the same page.

While writing this, I just thought we could you product variations, I will look into it, thank you.

make a single landing page for downloading the latest version. This page will alsways have a big "Download Now" button with link to the latest version. You want your new clients to always download the latest version.

Have a small link under the big Download Now button on the above page saying "Download Previous Versions" which will take you to a page which has links to all previous versions. This page is also updated when a new version is added and the current version becomes the old version.

Something like this

You don't have to create a post for each new version
You can simply create a page (instead of a post) and edit such page (instead of creating a new one).

You can simply keep editing and mainting just two pages, one for the current version and one for older versions. You will have only two pages to do SEO on, which is much more easy. Unless users do search you by versions, in that case you can have separate posts per version, which is very unlikely.

If someone looks for: "download <name of your software>" it will go to your yoursoftware.com/download/ page where you have a link to your latest version, similar to what @amit_dp has posted.

And that page will stay on top of Google results with ease, given that your software is the highest reputation for its brand (unless it's a common name brand, like "Video Downloader", then you will have to do a ton more work to get up there)
