SEO Journal/Case Study

I read whole of this journal and it feels like that too much of hardwork was involved in bringing the website in second page. Is it because you are trying to SEO very fast than normal? or is it because the keyword is too competitive?

Well my approach is a little bit different. Since i'm doing a tiered website, IMO the link juice flows alot slower then if I were to just blast the hell out of my money site. Yes I probably couild have blated 1000s of links to my website - but based on past experience, this has jumped me up to the first page and then eventually had my website deindexed. But, this is just based on my experience - im sure many people have had success direct linking straight to the money site. My rankings will come with time as they find my links that I built weeks ago finally are found and recognized. The keyword is not too competitive, but it still has 100~ backlinks to it vs my 50~. I"m still a bit behind, but its hard to judge that way as well cause of the link juice flow. I don't think i'm SEOing too fast on this website. It's been 3 weeks since i've started and I only have 50~ links to my website.

Thanks for sharing this information, brilliant posts so far with loads of detailed reports on how you push your backlinking methods.

Have subscribed and advise others who want better rankings to do so also, I learn more from people documenting their progress then simple eBooks which give step by step instructions.

Keep up the good work!
Gary

No problem. Yeah I find these journals really helpful for me as well as I can see whats happening everyday and the effects of what I do to achieve certain rankings etc.

This is amazing, thanks allot for sharing this

Beautiful, Siek!

:) I should be on the first page in no time

Current Rank/Indexing
  • Main Keyword: 23
  • I don't know what happened, but I must have made a mistake on the secondary keyword. From my initial research on the second keyword, there was quite a bit of visitors to that every month. But when I checked it - it doesn't anymore. I was playing around with Traffic Travis a week or 2 ago and I think I must have swapped my secondary keyword. I've been promoting a keyword that is very weak - I am officially dropping the secondary keyword and will have to do some research on another secondary keyword.
  • YSE: 53~

Today
  • BL - Running on Original T1/T2 Sites - I'll be swapping this soon to my next group of links
  • SS - Played around with this more. Found a template for PunBB forums. Used google to scrape a bunch of HIGH PR PunBB links. Filtered them with SB and excel to make them valid links to submit in SS. These PRs were 2-6 and there were 85 links. I created a list out of these and blasted 20 links to my MAIN PAGE over the past 2 days - 5 yesterday - 10 today. I am starting to really like this tool as its a very nice way to get my profile links in there.
  • SA - Created another diagram for the money site - scheduled it to complete within a month. Will create another one tomorrow on a deep link (after I do some research on more keywords I want to rank for - and find a corresponding blog posts that matches it).
  • BL - Blasted my money site with 20 links. Will do this again sometime during the week
  • RSS - I haven't been submitting any more RSS feeds as of late, but as soon as my other diagram completes - I'll begin this again. I don't want to RSS feed the Case study links.

Ok, siek superb thread and I have some Questions

You built lots of web 2.0's as your 1st tier and about 20-25 w 2.0's to each of them as 2nd tier . how many links you throw on each 1st tier to money site ? you post links in blogroll or in posts ? the w2.0's must be d0-f0ll0w so I think there must be very less outbound links to other sites,if yes what's the ratio? From them do you also link to other links ,profiles, articles ?as you said its a aut0bl0g, so you must only be linking to your domain or do you link to yours posts as well ?

Will read again and ask more

In terms of how many Tier 1 Sites I have pointing to right now i'd say around 75~. I have about 20-30 per campaign and have 3 campaigns that are running in which 2 are completed. Yes I do link to the other articles - but I don't do much of it. When i setup my SA campaign, I usually have it link to other web 2.0s automatically, but it's far from aggressive (maybe 2-3 interlinks in each campaign - i started this on my second and third campaign).

Since I control all my web 2.0 properties the outbound links are minimal. There is hardly any links going to other sites. I don't know what the ratio is, but its fairly low in general. I do link to my blogposts as well cause they contain keywords (title) that I can potentially rank for. This is all apart of my deeplinking strategy im trying out

Fantastic thread. I'm in a similar position as you, having done extensive SEO/Black few years back and now back into it-- heavy research and a little work being started. I can see you have some solid knowledge of all things web. That's worth a lot. Someone new to this could never do 1/4 what you're going to accomplish. Having said that, how many hours would you say you've put in per week average and how many to initially learn the tools? I think you said you are going to start monetizing after about a month. What is your goal for ROI on both your TIME and investment in tools, etc. after about 4 months. With the estimate, maybe you can say what you think your time is worth or just give total hours. Maybe this is asking you to share too much! I'm glad to do same if I start a similar post.

Are you in the US or an Eng speaking country (I think so)

Also,

Why statcounter vs. Goog analytics?

blog posts are mostly nofollow? Most of the Web 2.0 properties are often no follow? Are you of the theory that nofollow actually has some value? If so, with Goog and Y, would you say maybe 5% value of a site that does allow follow (that's my wild guess).

Did you alter wordpress free templates code so they're unique? I think less trust is given to commonly used WP templates. Some people by pro templates because they may be valued more. Whatdaya think?

Also, I'd like to exchange articles for posts with you, but am new here. I'm one of the first members of one of the other bh forums, but can't PM here. I use bestarticle and have much writing experience. How good does the quality need to be?

Keep up the informative post!

Well - the most time spent is pretty much learning the tools. What the tools do the the general concepts of what needs to be accomplished in terms of SEO and how to get it ranked. I have all these tools running on a Dedicate Server in which I just hop on and just use them on anything I wish. I really don't have a plan on what I want to blast - but this makes it more SEO more random in terms of link building - which definately doesn't hurt my cause. I just know how much to push (or I think I do). But overall, i'd say I spend an hour or two a day just setting up the projects and blasting. If i do decide to do a little bit more work its planning on what I should be doing for the next coming weeks and tracking everything. I spent ALOT of time learning the tools - but most of them are not hard to learn. But, I found playing with the tools fun so it really wasn't that bad at all. In terms of investment and ROI. This is a little bit different since I "know" what to do to rank for a competitive keyword - I've never really first hand experienced a number 1 position for a competitive keyword. (I've done some things here and there - but nothing too crazy). The investment is all in the learning stage. Like i've developed a system pretty much by just writing this journal which I can then use on many other sites. I now know what to blast and what not to blast and what to target etc etc to get the rankings. The ranking increase from 160 to now 20 is definitely not a fluke and i know what works now. From what I see, I can get at LEAST 8K searches a month. Even though I haven't ever tested this keyword, I just know that the traffic is there. Besides that a low estimate considering I'm targetting several hundred different keywords. But who knows i won't know until im acutally there. Next time i'll run the keywords through goggle adwords to test the impression - traffic. All my monetization is through a list and i'm most likely going to keep it that way. If i'm already going to do this - I mine as well create a list that I can bank off of for years to come. Besides - the niche im in - I can probably hit this list several times a year.

Are you in the US or an Eng speaking country (I think so)

Yes - Canada

Also,

Why statcounter vs. Goog analytics?

Well.... if you read my other posts.. im using a plugin that "hides" my stuff so using GOOGLE analytics is probably not the best idea. Its more of a precaution thing.

blog posts are mostly nofollow? Most of the Web 2.0 properties are often no follow? Are you of the theory that nofollow actually has some value? If so, with Goog and Y, would you say maybe 5% value of a site that does allow follow (that's my wild guess).

The web 2.0 sites i'm posting too - the last time i checked - I'm pretty sure most of them were do follow. As for the comments and what not - I tend to not really think too much into it. To me a link is a link. A natural banklinking strategy should include a mix of the two. Otherwise it would be unnatural IMO

Did you alter wordpress free templates code so they're unique? I think less trust is given to commonly used WP templates. Some people by pro templates because they may be valued more. Whatdaya think?

Well im use a PRO WP template. I didn't even consider changing it. It was simple and clean. As for the trust issue... who knows? maybe ... anythings possible - but that doesn't make much sense to me. Why would you give less trust to a commonly used WP template? For me the logic isn't there and doesn't make much sense to me. But again thats a very small detail that prob wont be the do or die that will make your website rank or not.

Also, I'd like to exchange articles for posts with you, but am new here. I'm one of the first members of one of the other bh forums, but can't PM here. I use bestarticle and have much writing experience. How good does the quality need to be?

Oh actually after finding the article scraper here - i'm not offering this anymore. I can mash the articles and rewrite them within 20-30 min per campaign. So sorry about that.

Keep up the informative post!

You're doing a lot of techniques that I'm going to implement. I did almost the same thing back in 2006 and at that time you really needed to be a programmer to do well with SEO.

Best I did with adsense was $5000 in a month from creating abouty 60,000 web pages a day, 400 sites, 8 hosts (virtual and dedicated) so really not much return. I had a sophisticated system at them time. May have made some crucial errors like using .info which at the time a lot of search engine spammers did. Of course, I was mostly going for long tail words.

Now is code written and sold for all black/white SEO on a sophisticated level. My developer created bots so I used to be able to auto create acounts on PR9 Netscape from a dedicated server AND have them do votes randomly. I have a list of 1000 accounts from about top 10 social bookmarking sites back then. Almost all are useless and they dropped the user accounts or went out of biz-- like Propellor.

I don't expect to have to spend too much time, as I've used old versions of some of what is out now. For example, in 07 there was "Article Bot" which cost like $70 a month and wasn't 1/2 as good as Best Article writer. I could have been a millionaire if that tool were around back then. I also used Xrumer when it first came out-- totally different now.

The investment is all in the learning stage.

Unfortunatley, I need to see some return fairly quickly or I'm not a "believer"-- been away from this too long, not huge, but some. Long term is better because everyone is going for a quick buck with their techniques.

Well.... if you read my other posts.. im using a plugin that "hides" my stuff so using GOOGLE analytics is probably not the best idea. Its more of a precaution thing.

Yea, didn't notice that.

All this could be debated for a long time...different perspectives.

Is best to at least use a pro. Most SE spammers for example don't bother.

No prob on that. Keep up the interesting journal.

any update in serps?

Current Rank/Indexing
  • Main Keyword: 15
  • Ranked 15... with 56~ backlinks in YSE. After scanning YSE... the ones that showed up were the HIGH PR websites that I commented on ..... using the scraping of the news website. I am going to do this again as it got approved and gave me a very nice PR with my comment being the only comment there. Those news sites probably get indexed hella fast so i'm gonna really do some more research into this.
  • I'm thinking I'll probably reach number 1 in a week or two.

Today
  • Been gone for the weekend. Didn't get much done. My sever lost connection or something so I'm guessing my BL didn't build any links during the weekend. All my information is on the server so I can't actually report anything until the company brings my server back up (prob tomr)
  • Been thinking about the case study and i'm wasting so much time planning it out and everything that I'm not putting in any effort to actually implementing it. So I think i'm going to brush this case study to the side and just start working on getting those links indexed. Besides - I could test whether all 4 work or not, but I believe that all of them are valid ways to getting links indexed. So instead of testing them one by one.. i think i'll just have variations of indexing to all my links. I have alot of links coming that I'll need to promote real soon so I can't spend anymore time tracking this case study. I just got to do something.

Current Rank/Indexing
  • Main Keyword: 15
  • Not going to say too much this post. Been real busy. What I"ve been trying to do is gathering all my links that have YET to be indexed by google - which is mostly the ones I havent promoted yet and going through the phases of getting them indexed. I will update a bit later when I have some time.

hope you make it in top3. Grate post.

one question, how do you find out how many exact searches it has a keyword?

Wow..... SERPAssist charge you $97/monthly.
I made my check list with excel :D

Thats the Diagram that I built in SERPAssist. Those nodes are built as I map them on the diagram. It's not just a mapping tool, but it actually builds links of how you set them up.

Use the google adwords keyword tool. On the left hand side select EXACT matches only and it'll show you the searches. But its not as accurate as you'd think. The best way to do it is go to adwords and setup a campaign with only EXACT SEARCHES and set a bid decently high where you'd get in the top (you want to do this so you can measure the impressions that come in). Try to make your AD really stupid so that it won't get clicked on as that will just cost you money. You can judge the impressions by how much searches it makes daily and you can extend that out on a monthly basis.

nice work, lots of info here just subscribed =)

Thanks

Lol I pay $77 - I have a deal. What kind of checklist did you make? lol

Excellent journal.. I was looking for this kind of SEO plan for a long time... I have a question.

Did you put links to your main site in tier 2 sites too? Or just linked to tier 1 alone.?

Very interesting, Im also on a similar way working with one of my websites. How much visitors are you getting? is that increasing too?

I subscribed to this thread... Waiting to see you hit the 1st spot.

The only links to my MS is from T1

Hardly any. I never expected much until I hit the first page

Current Rank/Indexing

  • Main Keyword: 17
  • YSE: 64

This Week
  • Hmmm I realize now that I am quite unorganized and i'm not too sure where everything is. I'm in the process of organizing all my links through text files and looking at what i've done so far
  • BL - Been building links to Group 2
  • SA - Hasn't really been utilized except for the scheduled monthly campaign. I realize now that I can spend an entire day on SA and build 10-20 campaigns that I can spread all the way into the next 2 months. I think i'll do that so that I don't have to continuously monitor it and just fetch the links later.
  • SS - Got the hang of this tool with the use of scraping my own lists from SB and I'm able to get some pretty decent HIGH PR forum profiles. I am currently working on a Article Directory Submission shortly to Article Dashboard. Just gotta spin something up.
  • Dedicated Server - Has been causing me problems because of my BL. It has been shutting down lots so I turned down the threads on BL from 30 to 5 and I have yet to have any shutdowns. I'll slowly increase this to watch my limit
  • RSS - I haven't been using this much as i'm so lost with all my links.. as soon as i organize everything i'll start submitting 20 a day
  • SB - I need to learn how to create my own autoapprove lists or I gotta go buy one. I also have been building some high PR comments here and there to the money site. Not many probably like 10-20
  • AMR - I have been considering picking up this tool, but from what I can see it focuses on several article directories as well as the typical article networks. If SS doesn't prove worthy in their article module, then i'll most likely pick this up. I really like their feature that you can schedule submissions everyday for so many days.
  • Thats about it. As soon as I get organized, everything will make more sense. I've been just blasting random stuff to the money page - which I'm not too sure what exactly i've done lol

Hmm...

So after breaking the second page - I just ran a quick competition analysis:

87840313.jpg

So in this picture i'm currently sitting at number 18. I am ranking for my main keyword, but I just can't figure out why my BLS shows 70 and the BL to the site doesn't. All my links in YSE are directly to the money site. One alternative I thought was the "/" at the end of the URL.

DOMAIN.com/
DOMAIN.com

I'm not too sure if that makes a difference, but i'm fairly certain it should be 70. The program also states that I don't have a DESC nor a H1 tag - but I know for certain I do so somethings a bit wrong with this. Anyways, I guess i'll just keep doing what I'm doing cause its obviously working. Maybe I'll change up my MS URL and add the slash at the end of it and see if that changes anything in this program. I'm thinking it shouldn't but who knows.

Many of the top 20 sites are from ezine, articlebase, and several other larger websites like howtodothings etc etc. Thats why so many of them have such high BLS.

If you have any questions, let me know.

If you put www front of your website, YSE will consider that as a different site. My blog has 100 links without www and 950 links with www So you might want to check that.. .

I'll update this thread soon... I have a huge campaign im trying to setup and don't want to say anything until its completely done. :) I haven't ditched this thread - but the rank is still at 19
