I see there's a huge number of members here from the UK. Obviously a lot of you will be doing SEO, I'm looking to start Local SEO targetting Builders, Plumbers, Electricians etc. But i'm just looking at what you guys would charge? Even if i charged £50 a month, that's £600 a year. But can you honestly see a plumber paying £600 a year? Maybe a little negative here. I've thought about doing one time payments of £297 with eventualy offering a FB Fanpage and some other upsells here and there. Just looking for some opinions here? Cheers!

Think about how much a plumber could make from being at no. 1. The web is a real estate market so you can tell him that if he wants to be on Bond St, he has to pay for it. If he wants to languish in Staines, he can stay there.

£600 would be ridiculously cheap to give someone a first page listing for a major keyword. I would man up, feel confident in what you're offering, know how to justify it, and say no to those that can't afford it without a second thought. In my early days I spent too long bringing the prices down for people and ended up losing money...

Might be jumping the gun a little here. And point it out if i'm wrong. But instead of charging for SEO. Why not offer them a google places listing? They'd automaticaly be up there on the first page or so. I hear some guy on here is offering GP listings at $997. When they could do it themselves for free? Haha!

I would have thought a lot of the trades advertise in Yellow pages. Why not see what the cost is for a half page spread and use that as your guide.

I do this and you could charge a whole lot more that £60 a month to a plumber. Just think about how much a plumber would make from being in the number 1 spot (obviously depending on the keyword). 1 or 2 jobs each month and they have easily made their money back.

If you are worried about pricing yourself out as you are just starting out, don't be. You could charge £100 a month if you wanted but of course you need to be able to explain and show the plumber what it is he is getting from your service and why you are justified in charging what you have.

Cheers! But as my above post. Wouldn't it be easier to offer a Google Places listing? Their easily getting into the top page? Again, apoligies if that is not the case!

Your main goal is to provide LEADS to your customer. It doesn't matter if it's Organic ranking or Google Places as long as he gets more clients because of you.

Irrespective of the particular industry, any reputable UK based SEO company will want a minimum of £1K per month.

I charge 600$ plus fees- you could try to go the commission route- set up a pay per call kind of thing and charge 10$ a call.

Lead-gen is a hugely growing industry, and with the current economical situation, more and more businesses are going to HAVE to take on-line marketing seriously.

Is £60 per month a lot for some plumbers or electricians? Maybe - but that's the wrong question to be asking. Target plumbing/electrical businesses that are already spending a bunch on Adwords (or have a huge yellow pages advert.) Then they already understand that business requires marketing. The reverse side to that question is : Can they afford for 10 of their competitors to be on page 1, instead of them.... If they can, then they're not a 'player' - so go find someone else who is!

I agree with everything said above. In my experience the businesses that pay the least expect the most hand holding. You want the bigger businesses that already know what value your service is worth.

The other thing I found and it may be just me but the cheap skate guys would be the ones who would try to get stuff for free or stiff you on the bill at the end of the month. Make sure that you own the site or always use 301 redirects in case you don't get paid.

Price is just a matter of confidence, have confidence in yourself and others will too.

This might be a stupid question but I don't do local search but didn't Google rain all over the Local Search parade with Google places...

I mean if you were trying to get your local plumber to #1 in Google for Plumber [Insert Town Here] would you ever outrank Google Places listings???

    Cheers
